Christmas: plans

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Merry Christmas Eve! Hopefully you don't have to work today and maybe you are already spending time with family and friends. Alternatively, I hope you finish your Christmas shopping and do a good job of packing for all the holiday travels. Don't forget the extra underpants and also your toothbrush.
.
I should be able to do QotD? tomorrow, so I will, but if you aren't reading this until January, you can still answer. I read alll of the answers! and I really love it. So Merry Christmas from The Asker!
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What are your Christmas plans this year?
.
I took today as vacation, but Justin has to work. Once he is home, we'll pack our small bags and driver over to his parent's for Christmas Eve and Day activities. Not yet sure when we are going to mass. But Christmas day we will open gifts and play games and eat great food. Sometime Friday we are driving up to my parent's house. Saturday we'll be opening presents, playing games and eating great food. Dad has requested that we bring Guitar Hero and Mom has requested Wii. We'll stay there a few days and then come back home where we'll have a few days to relax before we go back to work. Save your New Year's plans for later. I'll ask about them too!
.
MERRRRRRY CHRISTMAS!,

Christmas: memories

Dear QotD?ers,
.
This morning it is 68ºF outside. It also happens to be my last day of work this year. I'm very happy to be using my vacation.
Last night, I did three kinds of finishing seams on the project I'm working on. I was pretty impressed with myself.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What is a particularly memeorable Christmas moment for you?
.
One Christmas Eve, I was under 6 years old, my older brother came and woke me up because Santa was in the living room! We snuck through the hallway and peeked around the corner, but Santa had already delivered his presents and was gone. Then we snuck back to bed to wait for the morning. It was pretty magical and strengthened my belief in Santa.

Christmas: traditions

Dear QotD?ers,
.
the cold front is here. 37ºF with a windchill of 30.5ºF. BRRR.
I need to make some additions to previous answers. Christmas treat: rosettes by Aunt Margaret. song: Santa Polka by Brave Combo
.
This weekend I was in the audience at a talent show and I was forced onto the stage to perform "whatever [I'm] good at." Put on the spot like that, I posed like a supermodel. Tyra would not have been so proud!
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Do you have any Christmas or holiday traditions that seem unique to your family?
.
St. Nick comes on Decebmer 6th to fill our stockings with a huge orange, a huge apple and some candy. Our Christmas tree stays up until the Epiphany. In the nativity set, baby Jesus isn't set out until Christmas day, at which point the 3 wise men start their treck from the eastern side of the house towards the nativity scene (they reach their destination also on the Epiphany). When I was younger, we would celebrate Christmas Eve at my paternal grandparents' house on the farm. The living room would be closed off and after dinner we'd open the doors to discover that Santa had already come! After opening presents we would pray and sing Christmas carols.

Christmas: sugar

Dear QotD?ers,
.
No, I didn't go to work today and Yes, I slept in until 9:30. It was awesome. I'm up to 8 Christmas movies/specials. yesterday I watched Muppet Christmas Carol, Carebear Nutcracker, Holiday Inn, and Christmas Vacation. I was suprised and pleased that Blockbuster had the Carebears movie. As I watched it and recognized so many of the details (background music, mid-west accents, subtle animated movements), I realized that I must have watched it about a million times as a kid.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What's your favorite Christmas treat or dessert?
.
I love pecan pie. My granny makes chocolat clusters that are chocolate covered marshmallow-and-pecans clumps. St. Nick always brings chocolate for my stockings. apple strudel.

Christmas: more songs

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I'm sorry to dissapoint you because I don't like How the Grinch Stole Christmas, oh well. As we get closer and closer to actual Christmas, I will just keep getting more and more excited about my favorite Christmas things: including wearing Christmas socks every day.
.
There has been a lot of unofficial discussion about this already, so lets make it official.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What are some of your favorite Christmas songs now that you are an "adult?" Please include all the really rare or strange Christmas songs you like.
.
For example: I love I want a Hippopotamous for Christmas and Chrissy the Christmas Mouse. I also like Grandma got Runover by a Reindeer. You must remember that this song is fictional and no actual Grandma's got hurt.
Also (and you'll know this if you've ever ridden in the car with me while the song comes on), I really really love Sleigh Ride, the full orchestral version, no lyrics. Why? The sleighhbells. I will air-sleighbells the ENTIRE song, including at least one hand switch.

Christmas: terrible noise

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I've got some candycanes on my desk, feel free to come by and get one. Yesterday I watched Elf, Mickey Christmas Carol, Winnie the Pooh Christmas Special, and Polar Express. Yesterday was a really good day for me. I didn't bother me when I got stuck in traffic even though I stayed within a 1-mile radius of oru home: I had Christmas music to sing to!
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What are some Christmas songs or movies that you really don't like?
.
I really don't like Elvis, so any of his Christmas songs. The 'Happy Holidays' song, because the lyric "So whoopdie-doo" is sung with such a sarcastic tone. I am also a zero fan of How the Grinch Stole Christmas and any stop-action animation holiday movies. I think just because they creep me out.

Christmas: music

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Due to the late posting time, you might assume that I did not go to work today. You would be correct, but that is not why QotD? is late. Our internet went out AGAIN last night, and the cable guy just got done a few minutes ago fixing it. (A port in the connection box outside had gone bad. why couldn't they have figured this out some months ago?)
.
Anyway, I'm taking a day of vacation a) because I have too much to roll over into next year and I don't want to lose it, b) I've got some projects to do. And now that I'm not waiting around for the internet guy, I can go to Blockbusters and start watching everyone's favorite Christmas movies.

.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What was your favorite Christmas song as a child?

Christmas: movies

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I've gotten a bit more Christmasy at work. Friday I brought in a lot of decorations (including my dancing Santa) and today I have two kinds of candy canes: chocolate mint and Spree (R). We also have our Christmas potluck today. I brought green bean cassarolle and a pie-plate of frozen yeast rolls. They bake deliciously in the toaster oven.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What are your favorite Christmas movies?
.
In order for my Christmas season to be complete, I have to watch Christmas Vacation and A Christmas Story.
.

Kristen

That 5 cents a day adds up!

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Thank you for all the snowman compliments! That was seriously the most amazing snow I've ever seen. There was NO ICE associated with it, immediately making it better than every snow that I experienced in North Texas.
And today I'm going to listen to my John Denver and the Muppets Christmas CD. I am now fully into the holiday spirit. The next two weeks will probably be nothing but Christmas questions, so I'll refrain one more day.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What's the longest time you've ever had something overdue? (library books, rented movies..babies?)

this is not a hoax

Dear QotD?ers,

.

Justin had a pretty magical birthday, on account that it snowed for about 4 hours yesterday afternoon/evening. SWEET! I made a snowman.

And that's just from the snow that was on the roof of Justin's truck!
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Northern Hemisphere: How much snow did you get yesterday?
.
Southern Hemisphere: How was your lovely summers day?
.
Loooove,
Kristen

Shh, here he comes!

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Did you get snow?! My good friend Paris saw snow in College Station, what a great way to start the last day of finals. The last time wintery weather happened there on the last day of finals was my freshman year. TamiJean, do you remember how your 8am final got rescheduled and you had to find a new way home? I don't recall how you managed.. Oh well, stay safe everybody! Except for Sabrina and Daryl: enjoy your hammock lounging and flip flops!
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
SURPRISE! It's Justin's [QotD?] birthday party! What snacks did you bring?
.
I made a delicious fruit salad. Also, I've stacked fresh peanutbutter chocolate chip cookies into a mountain and added a big candle.

This question is not about the movie Psycho

Dear QotD?ers,
.
While many of us are in a life stage that no longer includes finals, there are still a ffew persons near and dear to my heart who have to take them. Please send prayers or well wishing thoughts to those who need a semester's worth of information to come out in complete thoughts and not dribbling out thier ears. and special thoughts for those fighting illness as well as facts.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What does your shower curtain look like?
.
I'll cover the guest bathroom. It used to be a plastic curtain with a frog/jungle collage pattern. It was very adorable and matched the rest of the bathroom frog accessories. At some point I decided our guests needed a more mature shower curtain, so now it's white cloth with a waffle texture. Many of the frog accessories remain.

Leftovers 5/5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Only 20 more days until Christmas! I'm sure I'll be asking lots of Christmas related questions over the next month. We are going to start our Christmas shopping in earnest today.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Since I'm done picking through the plate of your mind about leftovers, are there any thoughts left over that you want to share?
.
If not, you can make fun of how hard I tried to stretch today's question into the theme.

Leftovers 4/5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
A slowed economy makes for interesting stories being passed around the office. A Dow plant is firing everyone for the month of December, then will re-hire them in January? When the fertilizer business tanks, refineries that process sour crude dump molten sulfur in the ground until business picks up again? Crazy things. We aren't getting fired. I hope you won't get fired, too.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What foods make BAD leftovers?
.
asparagus. pretty good freshly cooked, but the texture becomes disgusting when reheated
.

Leftovers 3/5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
For those of you who weren't able to look at the sky: The waning moon, along with Venus and Jupiter, are making a sad face (for the northern hemisphere) or a happy face (for southern hemisphere).
It looked pretty good on Monday, but last night it looked like it was moving apart already.
.
back to questions
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What dish do you think is better as leftovers? (fully cooked, then refrigerated for at least 12 hours, then reheated)
.
Spaghetti, aging causes the noodles to get sauce flavor as opposed to just noodles and sauce. Also, barley soup, but maybe that's just because I love barley soup.
.
Love,
Kristen

Leftovers 2/5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Northern Hemispherians: This evening, when it gets dark (around 6:15 or so) go look at the moon. How is it feelings?
Brazilians: I'm not sure if this will work for you, but check it out and let us know if your night sky has a mood.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
How frequently does your household eat leftovers?
.
Justin and I will have the same answer, so I'll let him share the answer.

Leftovers 1/5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
So much has happened since we last pondered together: the Jonas Brother's performed at half-time for the Cowboys' game (blerg), the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade got Rick-Rolled by Rick himself, our new car made a 600 mile triangular trip around Texas, everyone ate a lot of food, some people did Christmas shopping (not me). I hope you have a good week of Thanksgiving recovery.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
How many times have you had Thanksgiving leftovers so far?
.
Once for each Thanksgiving dinner we attended, so two.

Thanksgiving 3/3

Dear QotD?ers,
.
It's the day before Thanksgiving and no one is here in the 14 offices I can see from my door. Maybe that means I can pump my Thanksgiving tunes* real loud. oh wait, I hear the printer (which I can also see from my door) working. It was the one other person in my group here today.
I'm really excited about Thanksgiving family time this year, probably more than I've ever been. I don't know what makes this year so special. Maybe it's because my last two family visits lasted only a few hours.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Do you like cranberry sauce?
How do you like to eat it?
.
I've always seen it as a main course mini-dessert. After I've had my first plate and go back for seconds, I'll get the dishes that I really liked and some cranberry sauce. So I don't eat it with turkey, but love it all on it's own. That may be strange?
.
I hope you all have safe travels and an enjoyable Thanksgiving. Don't overindulge on food or drink, but have fun!

Gobble gobble,
The Asker
.
*I don't have Thanksgiving tunes. I'm not even sure there are any.

Thanksgiving 2/3

Dear QotD?ers,
.
BRRRR. it was below 50ºF this morning and definatelly one of those days where you realize your regular socks aren't going to cut it. Therefore, I am wearing my super warm sock combo - thin nylon rainbow socks & thick, sweater-like blue socks. My feet are doing pretty good. For those of you you actually have work today (because you aren't a teacher and don't have oodles of vacation) I hope nothing crazy comes up. Oh, and vote Brooke Burke for DwtS champion.
.
Today 's Question of the Day? is:
.
What are five things you are thankful for?
.
.
.
1) My uncle's recovery
2) Amanda's safety
3) A husband who loves me even when i get a little crazy
4) Stable jobs
5) New QotD?!

Thanksgiving 1/3

Dear QotD?ers,
.
This will be a short QotD? week, taking vacation on Thursday and Friday.

Day trip

Dear QotD?ers,
.
If you haven't figured it out, today is my off Friday. I slept late and we are going to a movie this afternoon. Yes, I'm making Justin see Twilight with me. For those of you out of the loop, it's a young-adult fiction with vampires and loooots of teenage drama. I'm either going to cry a lot or roll my eyes continuously.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Do you have any big weekend plans?
.
My younger brother is turning 21 tomorrow, so we are going up for the party! It should be exciting, as my 21st birthday was in a park with 100 chicken nuggets. There's going to be some alcohol at this one!
.

new stomp

Dear QotD?ers,
.
No jury duty for me. I was looking forward to going through the process again, but we were dismissed during the 'loitering in the hallway, waiting for the baliff' stage. The upside was that I took Justin out to lunch, since I hadn't packed a lunch for myself that morning.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What is the last pair of shoes that you bought?
.
I bought myself some shoes from target. They are medium brown flats, slippers that I call 'Jackie' style.
.

toasty tootsies (i don't like the word 'tootsies')

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I woke up at 7:30 today! it was wonderful. I'll try to donate blood this morning before I start my jury duty day... Well, I just learned that the donor center doesn't open until 10, so I guess I won't donate blood this morning.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Do you own house shoes? what kind?
.
I have some purple granny-style house shoes. They are one of my winter necessities, as they keep my feet warm when a double layer of socks does not. I got this pair for Christmas last year because my old pair was in the closet and I saw a spider on them. They had to go.
In other news, I learned that they purposely took spiders up to the space staion. This is another reason why I won't be a space traveler.

aromatics

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Yesterday I went to the courthouse for my jury summons. After roll call, a list was called out and asked to return at 1pm. I was in that group, so I left, did some errands, had some lunch at home and then went back. The afternoon was spent asking questions and explaining the legal responsibilities of both parties in a criminal case. Those of us not chosen for the jury were asked to return Wednesday to fill a jury for another case. I'll probably make a livejournal entry of my experience, but we can also talk about it next time we are on the phone or get together.
Benno, a second week of jury duty! It must be a difficult one. May God grant you wisdom and clarity... and a verdict before Thanksgiving.

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It has finally gotten a little chilly down here, current temperature is 40ºF.
QotD? is coming out early today because I'm not going into work this morning. I've got jury duty! This will be my first time.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Have you ever been picked to serve on a jury?
If yes, was it a criminal or civil case?
If no, which of the two would you want to jury for?

crumbs

Dear QotDers?
.
Every year near Thanksgiving, some guys at work host a 'turkey bingo' for a local charity. Each board is 10x10 spaces and you put your name in a space for 50 cents. Letters are randomly chosen for the columns, numbers for the rows, and then a random combination is generated to chose the turkey winner for that board. I bought four squares, but I'm not sure if I really want to win a turkey. I don't think it would fit in our freezer.

Happy Veterans Day! I don't believe any of our current QotD?ers are veterans, but I'm sure you know some personally. Give them a hug and tell them thank you. .
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Of all the garments you own with washing instructions "Dry Clean Only," how many do you actually take to the dry cleaners?

I have probably taken my own clothes to the dry cleaners less than three times. Formal dresses (band banquet, bridesmaid, etc.) and suit jackets get dry cleaned, everything else can go for a ride in the gentle cycle.

Moo.

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Exciting DINK news: Saturday we not only purchased a new car, also a wii. Exciting frugal engineer news: between the two deals, we saved $3,624.75. We traded in my coreador red taurus, but I didn't tell them about the sticky passenger seat belt, the broken window motor on the back passenger side, or the fact that tiny, non-ant bugs have somehow made it into the car. HA! So good news, all my passengers, I no longer have to help you out of your seatbelt!
.
Now, this day's question wouldn't have been so exciting 8 years ago when almost all of the QotD?ers lived in a 25-mile radius. But now that you are all over the contiguous United states (excepting the east and west coasts, including Brazil), I'm pretty interested in the possible variety.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What dairy brands can you get at your grocery store and which do you favor?
.
Despite seeing no commercials for it ever, Lucerne has crept into the dairy aisle. It's beating out Borden in shelf space. And it's pretty reasonabally priced, so that's the brand of our milk and cheeses. Wow, I just looked at their website. The closest milk manufacturing plant is in Arizona! They also produce softdrinks like Dr. Skipper(!) and a lot of Safeway brand products.
.
Moo,

It's good for your bones

Dear QotD?ers,

1-888-VOTE-FOR-ME

Dear QotD?ers,
.
There's something pretty hilarious happening in the hallway. At least, I assume it's hilarious because there are lots of people laughing. In my opinion, it's too early for hillarity. The only exceptions being on way to Disneyland, waking up after a sleepover, or crazy. I'm not a morning person.
.
I enjoy having first and second breakfast. First breakfast was cereal while I finished doing my hair at home. Second breakfast was a banana just now!
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Have you ever voted for one of thos reality show competitions? If it had been free, would you have voted?
.
I have voted for two shows. Dancing with the Stars is free by e-mail. There was also a vote for Beauty and the Geek one episode. If it had been free, I would have voted for Pasha on SYTYCD.
.
Love,
The Asker
.

In case you have not read or watched any news outlet or talked to anyone: Barak Obama looks to have won the presidential rate. For those of you who voted for him, congratulations. For those that did not, the government has checks and balances. I bet Mr. Obama will be one of the most scrutenized presidents of all time.

Civic Duty

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I got a jury duty summons! My first ever! I'm excited but I know the actual experience will probably be very boring.
Anne, I don't know if you read Mom's response, but she wants to know what an arepa is. (this came into play when Cuñado requested a shopping spree for tortillas).
In other news, I find it a true challenge to drink 64 volume ounces of straight-up water every day.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Did/Will you vote in today's U.S election?
If so, what voting mechanism did/will you use?
.
I early voted last Friday afternoon. I was amazed at how quick the process was, considering our voting location served one of the higher density areas in our county.
And I voted on an electronic machine with a rotary dial and buttons.

Meet the QotD?ers: Kristen!

Name: Kristen

QotD? Alias: The Asker, and there used to be literally 99 more on the signature of e-mail QotD? many of which I'm looking at now and can't remember how I got them. #12: Mexican Rainstorm; #23: Chief Chemist (at Enviros); #53: amorphous blob of jello; #66: Proud Employee of King McDomino's Sub-in-the-Box Grocery Video Mall Department Store Outlet Camp; #92: applekitten; #100 is Justin's Girlfriend, which shows how long it's been since I've updated that list (over 3 years)

Relationship to The Asker: self

Tell us about the computer/internet you use when Answering: It's usually my work computer during a break. desktop and ethernet? I don't actually know anything about them. Most of the administrative and planning work gets done on my home computer, Ram Rom the Tumputer. It has pink ram. Comcast = terrible internet service.

Most memorable QotD? experience: getting all the QotD?ers at our wedding in a picture! 2nd place is dancing the Tunak Tunak dance on stage during a Percussion Studio show to fullfill Angel-A's 50 magic cosmic brownie points prize.

Favorite Question? : That three truths and a lie was pretty great

Current residence: suburb on the south side of Houston

Year of H.S. Graduation: 2000!

Job: economic feedstock analyst type job at a chemical plant

Hobbies: reading. Seriuosly, it's something I do every day. If I don't get a chance to read before bed I feel sad. occasional arts and crafts: sewing, cross-stitching, whimsical dioramas

Do you want to share a picture of yourself? sure! here is photographical evidence that I won a medal two weekends ago for walking a 5k. Amanda, myself and Justin were all winners!

Boo?

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Welcome to November. As always, I'm very surprised at how quick the year is going. Many years ago I was watching a tv show or reading a magazine article that gave me a new perspective on the passing of time. As a 10-year old, a year takes SOOO LONG to pass, because that's 10% of your life! As a 26 year old, a year is a quick 3.8% of your life. It only gets worse. I'm sorry I have to share this depressing news with you on a Monday, but it's good for you to know. Perhaps you will do more with your time, knowing how quickly it will all pass?
.
Now, if only I could figure out all these levers on my desk chair...
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What did you do for Halloween?
.
I did nothing Halloweeny. waited for the cable guy, enrolled for 2009 insurance, watched tv, early voted. Yesterday we bought discount halloween candy.
.

That bouncing smiley face

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Since my feet stayed so warm yeterday, I've decided to keep these two pairs together as the perfect pair. I'll wear them throughout most of the winter. So cozy!
.
Imagine that you've won a shopping spree at (Super) Walmart, the kind where you get a shopping cart and three minutes.

You are not allowed to shop at the gift-card kiosk.

"RC Cola and a ..."

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I think I've tried the pink milk before, and I didn't like it. Also, I used to be a powdered mix chocolate milk drinker, never realizing that chocolate syrup make a smoother, less clumpy, chocolate milk.

I just heard some rediculous news.

...a GOON!

Dear QotD?ers,
.
You may be wondering what took me so long to do today's QotD? Well, even if I had woken up at 7:30 on my day off to prepare it, I couldn't have! Our internet was broken. Specifically, the ComCast server was having problems, but the tech support can only say things like "there was some damage." Whatever, it's working now!

I'll give you three more chances...

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Sabrina, I'm not sure of what to make of your muppet match, but you must have had some very intersting people in your group. Anne, Benno's percussive predictability about Alicia refers to the fact that they are both percussionists. We three are only percussionists currently participating regularly. Amanda, who answers but less frequently, is also a percussionist (with roots in the woodwind family)!

Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Do you consider yourself an agressive driver or a defensive driver?

Dear QotD?ers,

My dish is filled with the last of the candycorn. Once it's mostly gone, I'll fill the dish with reese's pieces. Hopefully I'll be able to restrain myself this year better than last. They were so delicious that I ate too many every day and my mouth had an off-taste by the afternoon. but I kept eating them!

Secret Agent: 5 of 5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Yesterday I had peanut butter and apples for breakfast at my desk. Rather than pack a small tupper-ware of peanut butter, I just brought the jar. I was surprised by how many people were surprised that I had a jar of peanut butter. They all missed the apple slices sitting right next to it and assumed I was eating straight PB.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What sort of secret agent gadget would you favor?
.
And since this is the last day of theme week, if there are any secret agent ideas you want to share that I didn't ask about, feel free to include them in today's answer
.
Love,
The Asker
.

Secret Agent: 4 of 5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I didn't used to be good at keeping secrets, but now I'm pretty good. The best secret I spilled was a surprise going-away party for a friend in Junior High. I had written a note to a friend and I let her read it - forgetting that I had mentioned the party in my note.
.
The best secret I kept was not telling my best friends that I knew it was them who were playing 'secret admirer' on me. I also kept secret my backfire plan where I asked other friends to send me 'secret admirer' notes, too, confusing the my best friends!
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What is your weakness* - the thing that the enemy would only use for evil?
.
Love,
The Asker
.
*P.S. aside from threatening family and friends, etc.

Secret Agent: 3 of 5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
There are some more QotD?ers joining us. Ben is Benno, not duct tape pants Ben. Jeannie is Justin's mom. Stacia is Justin's cousin
.
Here is the most impressive of my secret agent skills: The ability to talk on my shoe phone without having to take off my shoe

.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Are you good at keeping secrets? What's the best secret you've kept? What's the best secret you've spilled?
.
Love,
The Asker
.
P.S. toothyag, I thought I knew who you were, but your choice of pronouns confused me. help!

Secret Agent: 2 of 5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Banana pudding ice cream by Blue Bell is an amazing gift that God has blessed us with. If you have never tried it, let me know and next time we see each other we can share some.
Is everyone enjoying theme week? I am!

.
What secret agent skills do you have that would make a you a valuable spy?

Secret Agent : 1 of 5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I hope you all had a pleasant weekend. I've been working on a craft project and was able to make some good progress.
.
As I mentioned last week, this is a theme week! I hope you were able to deduce from the title that the theme is Secret Agents. If not, I don't think you'd be a very good secret agent or spy.

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Yes, chocolate eyeballs, they are pretty delicious. I've got them in my spooky candy dish at work. Also candy corn. I'm doing much better at limiting my candy intake this year than last, but last year I had reeses pieces. Those are even more delicious than chocolate eyeballs.

I had a safety dream last night. I was in a process unit and was standing within the yellow lines (meaning I should put my goggles on), but I didn't have goggles! or even safety glasses! I was very embarassed by my lack of PPE. That might be the first work related dream I've ever had. Hmm.

Winner winner chicken dinner?

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Guessing is closed. Anne's answer of 8 pairs wins by price-is-right standards. I reviewed all my socks yesterday and I currently have 9.5 pairs of frog socks. Alicia gets an honorable mention for guessing that I'd have lost one sock in a pair.
.
If you are wondering, I also have:
6 pairs of cat socks
4 pairs of antlered animalss
6 pairs with winged creattures (bat, chicken, chick, butterfly, duck, penguin)
1 monkey pair
1 super mouse pair
1 turtle
1 polar bear
.
That's just the animal socks. I also have lots of colors, patterns and objects (ex: VW Beetles, NASA moon boots) Last night after I finished, I asked Justin if my sock wardrobe indicated I was a 5-year old girl. Interesting fact: When I was 5 I hated socks.

Gringo's: where white people go to eat Mexican food

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Yesterday I restrained myself from talking about how good this banana bread is because you are probably tired of hearing about it. But seriuosly, it's a delicious breakfast and we are running out of it. I dreamed of it last night. TamiJean, I'll post the recipe at some point.
.
It's Friday! Have I mentioned that there are picnic tables where we can enjoy our lunch in the sunshine? I'm really glad because 1) I don't get outside enough 2) I can defrost from the overkill AC in the building.

Dear QotD?ers,

Today's post has nothing to do with purchasing a car and everything to do with catchy jingles of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex in the 90's. Dear QotD?ers,

Seriously, this banana bread is great. Anyway, it's October so flip your wall calenders. ~flip~ Ah, this month I get to look at an autumnal ecosystem called Skeenykill Pond (in New Jersey). I need to flip my kitty calender at home still.
.
For the moment some of you have been waiting for: Let's Guess your Lies!
Go back to this day's answers, review and decide which you think is the lie for each participant. At that point you may answer in shorthand format (George Washington: #2) or you can share your thought process on why you chose as you did for each person. You do not have to chose for everyone, since some of you have never met each other, but give it a try!
Also, don't read anyone else's response before you formulate your own.
Also, don't respond to your own Three Truths and a Lie. That will be a question for later.

eggs! in the fridge!

Dear QotD?ers,
.
We have perishable foods in the refrigerator and RamRom the Tumputer is out of the closet and hooked up for all my home computing needs. Hurricane Crazyness is officially over.
.
Anne shared some useful ear cleaning fact in yesterday's answers. Also, I believe a yellow bedroom is a very strange gift indeed.
.
Today's Question is going to be a two-parter. If you've ever been to a party, sleepover, 'get to know you' function or team building activity, you may have played the game Three Truths and One Lie. I don't know if that's actually the name of it, but it describes the gameplay. You provide the players with three truthful statements and one false statement about yourself. The other players then try to guess which one is the lie.
.
This is what it would sound like if George Washington was a QotD?er:
I was the first President of the United States.
I did not chop down that cherry tree.
I find powdered hair stylish.
I only had 1 tooth when I became president.
The more obscure the truths are, the better!
.
For tomorrow's Question, I will ask you to read through everyone's list and guess which is the lie. So save your speculations until tomorrow.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What are 3 truths and 1 lie about yourself?

Thank you, Centerpoint Energy

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Despite being in one of the crazy week-and-a-halfs of my life, I had a good birthday. I got to see some family (Matthew) and friends (Paris & Jackie), Midnight yell, afternoon football game in the shade (2nd deck, row 38), home cooked dinner, birthday brownies with ice cream (also cobbler). And the best present, the one I was really really hoping for: Our Apartment Has Power! (the in-laws also got power on Saturday)
.
That was a delightful suprise and life should get back to normal for us now. We cleaned out the fridge yesterday (only keeping a bottle of unopened worchestershire sauce & unopened fruit cups). The power had been on long enough to re-freeze everything and I think that helped with depressing the funk smell. Every part of the fridge has been wiped down or rinsed off. Tonight I'll probably go through again and scrub what needs scrubbing and do a final rinse with a bleach solution.
.
We have been so very lucky, but there are still so many people that have lost. Please keep praying for them, especially QotD?er Amanda and her family.

Skinnamarinkydinkydink. Skinnamarinkydoo

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I've got a few pictures posted on my lj. Last night on tv we started watching the movie The Crow which I had never seen, but Justin had. I remember it being a scary movie that I shouldn't watch. Within the first few minutes, I could see why it was so scary and that was without the eyeball eating and stabbing scenes that were cut for TV airing. I was also very confused on the raven's part in the movie and how the 'good guy' was sooo creepy. Then we flipped to hilarious NBC sitcoms.

do all your shopping / AT WALMART!

Dear QotD?ers,
.
For those of you who aren't keeping up on my livejournal: Last night we stayed in a hotel paid for by the company because our apartment is still without power and may be for at least another week. It's a 70s era hotel. So old that the tv doesn't have a remote!! But I got to have a hot shower last night. I'm in a much better mood today. Dear QotD?ers,

We went home last night. No power. no gasoline in the city. But we are at work today as demanded. Within 30 miles of the plant, power was up and gas stations are open.
.
The only damaged to our home were 4 small leaks. 3 from the lighting fixtures in our bathroom, 1 above the door frame in the other bathroom.

Brownish

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I am making this post from my parent's kitchen. We've heard that progress is being made in our neighborhood. Some power has been restored and some stores are open. But our apartment doesn't have power and the stores still have limited supplies. My father-in-law drove by our building yesterday and it looked fine. Sounds like we'll just be dealing with a stinky fridge situation.

We still haven't made a decision to go back. Work would like us to, but I'm not confident in going home to a situation that is still unstable.

DON'T PANIC

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Hurricane Ike has now made it into the gulf and will be hitting some part of Texas. The coastal towns are under voluntary evacuation which may become mandatory later this morning. This would effect Brenda's parents and Amanda. There has not yet been a decision to shutdown the plant or to send home 'non-essential' persons. We are alert and wary and watching. If we do get an early release for the day (or I have any other exciting news about our situation), I'll post them on my livejournal. http://ksspiff.livejournal.com We have supplies to last us a few days if we ride it out and lose power. We also have an evacuation vacation home thanks to Matthew.

Ike is very confused. Last night he was thinking about coming straight for us. This morning he's headed towards Brownsville. We are watching him closely. Amanda, you can evacuate to our apartment, that is, if we don't evacuate to CoSta. Moo, if we evacuate, we won't come to the party. But really it's all up in the air.
.
Last night we went to an Astro's game and the only thing we paid for was $4 for 4 hotdogs and $5 for cotton candy. We had free $50 seats and our friends did the driving. It was awesome.

I hope you had a pleasant weekend. I did! I spent a good deal of time developing a project and now I think it will turn out pretty nice. I can't yet tell you what it is. Saturday night I watched Vantage Point which was pretty interesting. Last night I watched The Other Bolyn Girl which was full of really sad family manipulation. Tonight I'm going to an Astro's game!

Dear QotD?ers,

I watched an episode of startrek last night that included a pretty orange kitty and a Data cake.

Yatta, Yatta. OHIO!

Dear QotD?ers,
.
QotD? is a dictorship led by me and supported by Quiggly Orin and his army of helmeted ducks, so rarely do I bring up politics. But last night a female accepted the nomination for vice-president of a major political party. A woman with 5 children! (Anne, she wins at having a crazier life). Never before have I heard so much discussion about how hard it is to be a mother, regardless of the argument "she'll never be able to have a balanced work life" or "Heck, this woman can do anything." Justin and I watched her speech last night where she presented herself well and gave a great speech.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Do you have any observations, comments or questions about the possibility of a female VP in America who might become president, considering the longevity of the presidential candidate?
.
I'm not out to start a QotD? riot, so be sure to be polite.
.
Love,

.
P.S. I hope "Drill, Baby, Drill," a chant from last night, is never heard again as it is a crass way to express your desire for oil independence
P.S. When eating hot oatmeal, pay special attention to your hand-eye coordination so you don't miss and some of it goes down your shirt.

Wednesday, September 3, 2008

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Yesterday I finished all that ironing. It took less time to iron the 20 shirts than it did to iron the 5 pairs of pants. I did the pants on Monday evening while watching Monster House. That was a fun movie, though it was creepy and people died!

I slept pretty hard on the van-pool van this morning on the way to work. My oatmeal is extra tastey this morning, so hopefully today will be a great day! It's the first of a 4-day work week!

Dear QotD?ers,

Thankfully, Gustav turned out to be a non-issue for us. I don't think there are any QotD?ers that are impacted either. Hanna looks like she's headed for the east coast. HAPPY LABOR DAY!

4 day weekend

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Yes! a 4 day weekend! Happy Labor Day (Monday)!
I was not aware that pregnancy messes with bone structure. I will remember this for later.
.
Gustav is still undedicded, but it looks like we still will see no effects. Regardless, we should have had our hurricane ride-out snacks all sumer. That will be one of this morning's missions.

Dear QotD?ers,

No, I don't have today off, but I do have a meeting today off-site. I have been thinking about you though.
.
Amanda, I am jealous that you got to have lunch with Matthew and Jackie. Matthew and Jackie, I'm jealous that you got to have lunch with Amanda. You should all come have lunch with me!
.
Gustav is still on the radar, but he's not as exciting as we thought he would be. It looks like our labor day exended weekend will be unaffected. I will probably purchase some water and non-perishable snacks this afternoon to be held until hurrican season is over. Just in case there are other hurricanes on the way that may actually effect our power supply.

Sometimes, Sci-Fi books assume that Soviet Russia will exist in the future

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I'm reading a sci-fi novel written in the 50's.
.
I think Gustav is headed towards New Orleans on Monday. If so, it will be a terrible Labor day for them. There is a small chance I will get a hurricane day on Tuesday, but I'm so far from the coast we would only be risking power outages.
.
I appreciate all the answers yesterday and knew who most of them were! ALF wins! Evie I sort of remember, but I get her mixed up with the "small Wonder" robot-girl. Justin, good choices. If only Riker was an alien... I dont' remember hypnotoad. I don't really like Q and his arrogance. Mom, ET still scares me unless it's in spanish. Alicia, I remember when that show came out. It was hilarious.
.

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I just had a 3-day weekend. It confused me so much that I thought it was actually a week later that it really was. I've gotten my days confused before, but never my weeks. Good thing that this week is only 4 days too! HOORAY!
.
For those of you interested in a QotD? challenge, I have one for you! I would like to have a Rorschach inkblot theme week, but since this is QotD? I need it to be a little strange. I'm calling upon you to create some Rorschach condiment-blots. Get some ketchup, mustard or your favorite condiment or sauce; put some on a paper plate (or suitable substitute), fold the paper plate in half, photograph the 'inkblot' and e-mail it to me. Dear QotD?ers,

It's raining outside and I'm in all-day training. But we take a 10 minute break as part of every hour. We've only gotten through 10 pages of our 115 page workbook and we started at 7am. It's moving a little slow for my taste, but it's Safety training, so I shan't complain. What I will complain about is the lack of donuts for a training class that starts 30 minutes earlier than regular work, meaning I couldn't ride the van this morning, and also that I had to wake up early.

Reprise of Ruby Throated Sparrow

Dear QotD?ers,
.
I made it through my very busy Monday and I think my radio really helped (even though it only gets one station, with static, inside this building).
Last night Justin tried to feed me celery in a recipe. He claimed that by cutting it very small, I wouldn't taste it, but would still benefit from the crunch. I told him that was a lie, that I would always taste the celery. He didn't believe it. I proved him wrong. And then he smelled like celery all evening.

If you ever have a really good question, e-mail me (at my hotmail address) and I'll use it. I think it's only fair that you have a chance since many of my questions are created because I've thought of an answer that I want to share. Dear QotD?ers,

Today is not going to be a good day. I'm wearing two different prescription of contacts and Target has yet to call about my order coming in. If I use one eye at a time, it's fine. I'm glad that those of you who watched it were equally amazed. I think NBC has the intersting parts (all the theatrics, none of the parade of nations) on their website. -- Justin is hilarious for providing commentary on his own answer. -- In Feb of '09 local broadcast channels go from analog to digital. All the tvs we own won't pick up the digital signal, unless we get a new tv, cable/satellite or converter box. -- I accept thanks from Band Geek, it was my pleasure and I'm glad he no longer has an enemy.

Olympics 1/5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
This weekend was a busy one. My grandmother turned 80 on Saturday, so most of her family got together for a birthday party. We had homemade fajitas and 5 kinds of desert (chocolate cake, white cake, brownies, banana pudding, apple strudel). I was also introduced to a drink called "wine-arita." Sunday we went to visit my uncle. It was good to see him and we got to participate in a session of phys therapy. Take some time right now to appreciate how good you have it, being able to move freely and how frustrated you would be if you lost control of an arm or leg. He's making excelent progress, it will just take time.
.
So, this week begins the first Theme Week for Question of the Day? If you paid attention to the title, you should know where I'm going with this. In addition to answering Olympic themed questions, you are welcome to share anything Olympic related (how much you loved watching [insert event here], discussing China as a crazy country, letting me know if the Home Depot commercials make you cry too). If, for some reason, you hate the Olympics, you are welcome to make up and answer your own question. Just make sure you state what the question is. Anyone can use this method any time my question does not interest you.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Did you watch the opening ceremonies?
If so, what was your favorite part?
If not, what were you doing that was so important that you couldn't watch the opening ceremonies, because they were awesome?

P.S. yes, the Home Depot commercial made me cry. How can you not be moved when you think about Home Depot giving all those athletes a steady job and still allow them the flexibility to train as much as they need?

Dear QotD?ers,

I had green vegitables at dinner Wednesday night and yesterday at lunch I ate 1/2 of a huge hamburger. In the afternoon I went back to the blood-mobile to try again. This time I had them prick a finger on my right hand. Result: They took my blood AND gave me another cupon for a pint of BlueBell. The woman working on me was extremely good. She found a vein without any problems, didn't hurt much at all, and I have no bruising today.

Dear QotD?ers,

It's Friday! Tonight were going to the park to watch Evan Almighty on a big-screen outside! That is, if it isn't still raining because of Dolly.

I'd probably watch a documentary first. They usually cover the topic broadly with the most important or most interesting information about a subject. Then I could determine if I was still interested and which details I wanted to know more about. A book would have that, but now I don't have to sift through the entire 1000 pages to find the part I really want to read.

Dear QotD?ers,

According to wikipedia, in the 8th century BC, the ancient Greeks wore socks from matted animal hair for warmth. On a personal note, I used to hate socks but I really started to love them when I got my first pair of 'novelty' socks from Mom. They were red&silver, gray&silver, blue&silver from Old Navy. The After Lunch Edition

Dear QotD?ers,

I did it again. I forget all about you when I have the opportunity to sleep in. I'm sorry, but it will probably happen on a regular basis. But I WILL try to get QotD? to you every weekday.

What sort of magic tattoo would I get? A big bold Pi on my right arm. so I could exclaim "You dare to face the Power of Pi?" and then I would flex. I would do this when threatened, when I feel bossy, and any other time that it may be necessary.

Ok, the super fun tattoo that I would get: a handlebar mustache. Mostly because it would be rediculous and I could activate it when I'm feeling ponderous and pretend to twist my mustache ends. Are you picturing it?

Also: the coloring book equivalent of a butterly somewhere on my front torso. I could color it with different markers for different moods!
maybe some sort of vine motiff that I could activate to 'grow.'

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What office supply do you consider most necessary for your every day life?
'pen' or 'pencil' is not acceptable. You must be more specific like "black ball point pen" or ".5mm mechanical pencil'

scalp burn

Dear QotD?ers,

Good morning! I hope we all have a pleasant week ahead of us. I'll do my best to make sure your QotD? bits are entertaining.

This weekend we went to the world's best water park (true fact). The water was cold, the weather was pretty nice, but the park was crowded. That part wasn't too unexpected for a Saturday in July. Some people enjoy people watching, and there's nothing quite like people-watching at a water park. Of the hundreds of people, I never saw the same swimsuit twice. I did see a LOT of skin, and also tattoos! My favorite tattoo was a stick figure spouting profanity. The tattoo looked home done and not very well at that. And it was casually on display, as if profanity at a family oriented park is no big deal. Dude, at least your long hair was pretty.

Imagine that tattoos are painless, free and can be activated and deactivated.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What tattoo would you get?
Remember, by deactivation you could make your tattoo invisible during serious events. You may assume that different portions of any tattoo can visibile and invisible at the same time.

The Asker
