Uncle

Dear QotD?ers,
.
My uncle had a stroke yesterday. It was very unexpected and the doctors have not yet found a cause. Thankfully he is doing well, all things considered. He was in good spirits and able to move his fingers and toes. Please keep him, his fiance, and the rest of my family in your thoughts and prayers.

Golden Delicious

Dear QotD?ers,

I think I'm more tired than I let on. I'm not sure why today would be different than yesterday.
I'm wearing pink & blue striped sock with my green shoes. I like having a job where I can get away with things like that.

Today's Question of the Day? is:

Are there currently any plants under your care?

...and starring Cedric Diggory as Edward

Dear QotD?ers,

I slept most of the way home yesterday, despite being in an unreclining seat with little leg room. This morning on the way to work, I had the entire back, back, back seat to myself and got to lay all out. I didn't sleep at all. What's up with that?

Today's Question of the Day? is:

4 minutes (the 4 seconds is silent)

Dear QotD?ers,

I use Head & Shoulders shampoo (I have trouble controlling the quality of my skin regardless of where it's at*) & some sort of 'long,' 'smooth,' 'strengthening' conditioner. I've been switching it up in an effort to keep my ends from splitting and the rest of the length manageable.

We saw two movies this weekend. Evan Almighty for free at the park & Dark Knight the new Batman movie. I enjoyed both of them.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What is your favorite mode of transportation?

non-fictional modes only

Shah

Dear QotD?ers,

It's Friday! Tonight were going to the park to watch Evan Almighty on a big-screen outside! That is, if it isn't still raining because of Dolly.

I'd probably watch a documentary first. They usually cover the topic broadly with the most important or most interesting information about a subject. Then I could determine if I was still interested and which details I wanted to know more about. A book would have that, but now I don't have to sift through the entire 1000 pages to find the part I really want to read.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What kind of shampoo do you use?

on your feet

Dear QotD?ers,

According to wikipedia, in the 8th century BC, the ancient Greeks wore socks from matted animal hair for warmth. On a personal note, I used to hate socks but I really started to love them when I got my first pair of 'novelty' socks from Mom. They were red&silver, gray&silver, blue&silver from Old Navy. Thanks Mom!

There was a quarter-sized frog on the driver side window of our car this morning. He drove all the way to Target with us. I hope he finds some nice bushes to make a new home....

To learn about a subject that interests you, would you rather read a book, watch a documentary or see a museum exibit?

Hello Dolly

Dear QotD?ers,

It looks like the first gulf hurricane of the season is going to miss us. Hooray! We should probably work on our hurricane kit, but haven't yet. It rained pretty hard last night, though.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What is a random fact about one of your favorite things?
.
Please avoid using a person as your favorite 'thing.' Please include what your favorite thing actually is in your answer. 'Fact' can mean scientific, historical, well documented OR a truth about your relationship or experience with your favorite thing.

The After Lunch Edition

Dear QotD?ers,

I did it again. I forget all about you when I have the opportunity to sleep in. I'm sorry, but it will probably happen on a regular basis. But I WILL try to get QotD? to you every weekday.

What sort of magic tattoo would I get? A big bold Pi on my right arm. so I could exclaim "You dare to face the Power of Pi?" and then I would flex. I would do this when threatened, when I feel bossy, and any other time that it may be necessary.

Ok, the super fun tattoo that I would get: a handlebar mustache. Mostly because it would be rediculous and I could activate it when I'm feeling ponderous and pretend to twist my mustache ends. Are you picturing it?

Also: the coloring book equivalent of a butterly somewhere on my front torso. I could color it with different markers for different moods!
maybe some sort of vine motiff that I could activate to 'grow.'

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What office supply do you consider most necessary for your every day life?
'pen' or 'pencil' is not acceptable. You must be more specific like "black ball point pen" or ".5mm mechanical pencil'

scalp burn

Dear QotD?ers,

Good morning! I hope we all have a pleasant week ahead of us. I'll do my best to make sure your QotD? bits are entertaining.

This weekend we went to the world's best water park (true fact). The water was cold, the weather was pretty nice, but the park was crowded. That part wasn't too unexpected for a Saturday in July. Some people enjoy people watching, and there's nothing quite like people-watching at a water park. Of the hundreds of people, I never saw the same swimsuit twice. I did see a LOT of skin, and also tattoos! My favorite tattoo was a stick figure spouting profanity. The tattoo looked home done and not very well at that. And it was casually on display, as if profanity at a family oriented park is no big deal. Dude, at least your long hair was pretty.

Imagine that tattoos are painless, free and can be activated and deactivated.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What tattoo would you get?
Remember, by deactivation you could make your tattoo invisible during serious events. You may assume that different portions of any tattoo can visibile and invisible at the same time.

The Asker

Oops!!!

Dear QotD?ers,

I seem to be 12 hours late! You see, today was a no-work day. I slept until 10. Then I showered. Then I went boardshort/swimsuit shopping for the Schlitterbahn trip tomorrow. Then I had a nap. Then I did some other things. THEN I turned on the computer, checked my e-mail and then I realized that it was Friday and I hadn't asked you a question yet. Oops!!!

in a rut/ I'm craaaAaaAzy

Dear QotD?ers,

Either I didn't set my alarm last night or I turned it off without waking up this morning. I managed to get ready, enough to ride the van at least, in 7 minutes. I'm impressed with myself.

In other news, I'm wearing my surfing monkey socks. I don't anticipate anything to exciting today so I don't know what else to share with you.

oh! I can give you an update on the almond situation. A week or two ago I reported that one serving of almonds was 8 almonds. What the package was actually telling me was that a serving is 1/4 cup of almonds, and that there are 8 servings in the package. But I've started eating almonds in batches of 8 anyway.

7th Annual Mucky Muck Day!

Dear QotD?ers,

It's the 7th Annual Mucky Muck Day! July 16th is a QotD? holiday in which you have the opportunity to do something very mucky. Maybe it's playing in the mud, cleaning bathrooms, a day of tedious classes, being stuck in traffic jams.. just about anything that could be messy or unpleasant. Get to it!

Yesterday I got to introduce our yankee interns to okra. They had never even heard about it : o

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand

Dear QotD?ers,

Did Duran Duran know that the Rio Grande was not that glamorous of a river?

Last night at yoga class, we were working on a pretty intense progression of poses. Halfway through class time I started getting really hot and sweating more than usual at class. I assumed that I was 1) working much harder 2) possibly experiencing a return of my fever. The reason it was getting so hot was actually a combination of 1) and 3) the air conditioner stopped working. So, thank goodness I didn't have a fever but GOOD HEAVENS it was hot in there. It was actually cooler outside, in Texas.

Imagine that you and your boss are going to a meeting requiring a one hour road trip. You will be driving

Did anybody get that it was deoderant?

Dear QotD?ers,

Over the weekend my illness went from my throat to my nose. I'm actually very surprised by how great my throat feels compared to Friday. My voice is still gravely, though. No fever today, so I came to work with some medicine and some oatmeal*.

Jelly Belly jelly beans are amazing.

Arctic Apple by Secret Platinum

Dear QotD?ers,

Yesterday's title came from the perfume I was wearing. I'm continuing that today.

I need to warn you all not to lick QotD? today, as I'm finally getting sick with some of what Justin had. I don't have a fever, swollen tonsils or a sinus infection, but do have post-nasil drip causing a raw throat. My voice sounds odd.

It's Friday, and we are going to a free movie in the park tonight (if I don't feel worse). "Nim's Island" didn't look good enough to see in the theatre, but it does look gooe enough for FREE.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
How do you like your tea*?

P.S. Have a good weekend!
P.P.S *hot or iced!

Princess by Vera Wang

Dear QotD?ers,

Last night I made ps'mores (psuedo s'mores). They are incredibly messy, but mostly delicious.
1) melt chocolate chips
2) dip one side of a graham craker square in melted chocolate
3) make a bunch of those and put them in the freezer for the chocolate to set
4) take them out and smear marshmallow fluff on the chocolate side
5) take an unsmeared square and sandwhich the fluff
CAUTION: chocolate and marshmallow fluff will ooze
CAUTION: chocolate is likely to get underneath fingernails making it look like you have a hygene problem, but you don't, you just have delicious fingernails

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Did you have a childhood blanket or stuffed animal that you loved so much? Do you still have it?

100º

Dear QotD?ers,

The title of today's post was the temperature my husband had when he woke up this morning. I made him stay home and schedule a doctor's appointment.

In other news, I continued my exercise regimin last night by going to my cardio/abs/strength training class. I hadn't fully recovered from yoga on Monday night, so today my obliques(?) are making themselves known. We had meatloaf last night while watching "I Survived a Japanese Gameshow!" which is pretty funny for a reality competition. There isn't as much drama as there is focus on the rediculousness of Japanese game shows. Hai Majide!

Now for a subject that really hits home with me, causing irritation and bewilderment

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Who else is getting calls to their cell-phone about a vehicle warrenty which is about to expire and this is the last call, the last chance to renew, except you KNOW it's not, because you have no idea what vehicle or warrenty they are talking about and also because they keep on calling?
Love,
The Asker
P.S. A co-worker who recieved a bouquet of flowers last week is on vacation this week. She asked me to throw them out when they get bad. I determined this can best be managed by moving the flowers to my desk. I've gotten a lot of compliments.

Gordon Shumway

Dear QotD?ers,

cuñao => 'slang' for cuñado => spanish for brother-in-law => more specifically my brother-in-law, the polyglot

One of the cable channels is doing a retro 80's prime-time programming special. That means that there were TWO HOURS OF ALF on last night. Since I had yoga class, we recorded it. When I got home, we watched an episode while we ate our lasagna. Justin was suprised that I remembered the theme song enough to sing along (it's instrumental). So was I (surprised, not instrumental)!

This morning, NPR had some news story involving a guy named Michael Brocolli. Imagine that your last name could be a food.

What would it be?

An apple day... is what I usually eat for breakfast

Dear QotD?ers,

I'm glad that some of you got to catch up this weekend with your answers. I've really enjoyed reading them and I appreciate the thought that you've put into them.

My country would be a re-independenced Texas. I definately think that there's enough state pride that we could pull it off. I'd keep most of the state's deisgnations as the 'nations' (mockingbird, bluebonnet, chili) but I'd add "State Pest: fire ants."

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What time do you regularly wake up?
For those of you in the education field, please provide summertime and schooltime answers.

GRAND RE-OPENING!

Today is the first official day of QotD? All across America today, there were be fantastic firework shows coinciding with the Grand Re-Opening! Thanks America!

Because QotD? is trying out a different format, I've created an FAQ that may help you any questions you have. Please peruse at your leasure. The link is just under the Question of the Day? heading in the blue bar. There is also a link to a 'Meet some QotD?ers' post which I'm hoping to keep updated as a regular feature.

I'm very excited to be starting up again.

Imagine that you have become leader of a new, independent country

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Where is it, what is it called, what are the country's official flower/bird/food/pastime or whatever?
For those interested in additional challenge, write lyrics for the national anthem.

Wednesday: one day before

Dear QotD?ers,

You may notice that this e-mail is three hours later than 'regular' time. There is a very good reason for that. Since tomorrow is a holiday, we get today off and I slept until 9:30. I guess that responsibility to wake up early for you hasn't set in yet. But you may be glad to know that I had some crazy-time dreams involving a shrinking bus, college classes in an old hotel, a wedding where the guests recieve roses, and pastries filled with creme. That was the tastiest part.

Because I'm here eating pancakes...

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What's your favorite breakfast food?

Wednesday

Dear QotD?ers,

Yesterday evening I bought a bag of whole almonds to serve as a healthy snack at work. This morning, I tore across the top at the 'tear hear' location, but somebody was sleeping at their 'packaging quality control' job and now I have to use scissors to open my almonds. Just like in the olden days before advanced packaging! ~opens bag~ Success! ~crunch~

In a completely unrelated topic, reruns of ALF will be showing this summer as part of a 'remember how great the 80's were?' summer promotion. I forget which station, but I've set our DVR to record it. ALF's only fault was that he likes to eat cats.

Imagine you are a martial artist,

Today's Question of the Day? is:

(Think "hi-yah!", but more original)

Tuesday

Dear QotD?ers

Thank you to those of you who responded yesterday. It was fun to hear from you and I hope we can both keep it up. We already have a new QotD?er already, Groovy Sabrina. Welcome!

I'm really tired this morning. I can't think of a reason why today would be more tired than yesterday, but I'll make myself some hot chocolate, have a bagel and make my way through the day.

Today's Question of the Day? is:

Using googlemaps or mapquest, How many miles are you from your birthplace?
