It's good for your bones

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Justin and I caved and got facebook accounts. Be my friend.
I'm very glad that it is Friday. I have some exciting errands to run. If everything goes well and we make a purchase, I'll tell you about it on Monday.
.
As I sit and eat my Crispix cereal, I wonder...
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Milk: whole, half, 2%, skim, soy, rice, goat?
.
Love,
The Asker

I grew up with whole and anything else tastes gross.

MMMMM! You just reminded me of two more things I can't find in grocery stores here: Crispix & Soy Milk.

Back home, I always had three types of milk in the fridge: Soy, Rice and Cow (2%). Daryl introduced me to Silk Very Vanilla (soy) which I came to love. Try it in a store near you! Also Rice Milk is very refreshing on hot days, like Horchata.

I am certain that I am the sole reason that dairy farmers get up in the morning. My family consumes no less than six gallons of milk a week.

Mostly, we consume 2% milk. But Bob and Jacob really prefer whole milk; Nick prefers skim milk; Jessica and I are happy with any of these forms. So we compromise at 2%, but there are times that there is a gallon of skim, a gallon of whole and a gallon of 2% all in the fridge and all opened!!

We have tried the soy milks, but prefer these for making fruit smoothies or to add to coffee.

We have also had FRESH, UNPASTUERIZED goat's milk on the farm in Kansas. Aunt Wendy was just glad no one got sick!

On a bone-related issue, Nick got braces yesterday. He has an overbite of 110% (way to put in an effort, Nick!) this is the beginning of that fix.

2% milk, but I hardly drink it straight-up anymore -- usually with cereal or in my coffee.

We're down to skim milk now. I started out with whole and it took me a long time, but now I can drink the entire rainbow of milk percentages.

In truth, I cook with milk and add it to my cereal and coffee...I don't really use it much aside from that.

Vanilla soy milk in cereal is really good. <3 (usually adds even more sugar though, boo!)

Whole or vanilla flavored rice.

I have Count Chocula, Franken Berry, and Boo Berry cereals. So I am very happy and will actually be consuming the milk that I purchase.

my favorite milk is whole milk. if i have it in the house, i will drink it. but my professors and others have convinced me that i do not need to drink whole milk, so i have switched (unhappily) to 2%. usually when i have 2% in the house, i only use it for cooking and very rarely for drinking.

i'm very impressed that one family can go through SIX gallons of milk in a week! that must take some effort!!

Alicia,

No effort, cajoling or encouragement necessary. Between cereal, drinking and cooking, the milk gets consumed. I will note that while Jacob was doing marching band in the summer, he was discouraged from milk in the mornings. This reduced our milk consumption by about a half a gallon a week.

We also consume lots of yogurt, cottage cheese, and cheese. We love dairy in this house.

2% for me. I will also drink soy milk. I find that rice milk and 1% milk taste like water. Whole milk tastes like I'm eating milk, so 2% or soy for me!

...and I'm very glad you and Justin joined facebook!!! Wahoo!
