New Year's Eve

Dear QotD?ers,

The whirlwind is over! 5 Family events in 7 days. I really don't think we are going to do that ever again, but I don't think there will ever be a confluence of circumstances that would present such a sitaution, either. And next year we should have a baby, which I keep hearing means that people come to visit us. I think I can handle that.

Have you heard that QotD?er Jackie will be moving to Wyoming after she gets married? Her fiance* accepted a job up there. When they asked if we would visit, my immediate answer was "not in the winter."

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What sort of advice, suggestions or requests would you have for someone moving from Texas to the Frigid North?

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE! The next series of questions will all be about 2010 reflections or new year stuff, so prepare thyself.

Love,
The Asker

*her fiance being my younger brother, but he doesn't play QotD? anymore, so he gets a second hand reference.

stuff or more

Dear QotD?ers,

Our sent/recieved ratio turned out to be 36/16. Man, that was a lot of cards. And most of that was to family and close familyfriends. We also got cards from our realtor, the OB doctor (well, the entire medical team at the facility, include one grumpus that they stuck on the end of the group photo) and Justin and I each got a card from the managers at work. It's the same card. But we are on the mailing list as individuals, not a couple. Really, they could save the stamp and the paper and I wouldn't mind.

Tonight we did some cleaning up in the house because we anticipate overnight guests tomorrow and Wednesday. Justin is finishing up the bathroom and then claims that we need to vacuum the living room again (I just did that a week ago!) I guess if he does it, I don't have a problem.
I'm real tired, though, so I'm going to fold that load of laundry that I did on Saturday, shower and go to bed. hopefully before the post-dinner heartburn kicks in, but I doubt i'll be that lucky. Seriously. I hate heartburn.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What is one thing you recieved for Christmas that you are especially thankful for? (doesn't have to be a tangible gift! think as broadly as you like)

Merry Christmas!!

Dear QotD?ers.

Merry Christmas my friends! I hope you have been having a wonderful holiday season.
We have done too much travelling, but it's been good to see family and friends. We even had a chance to see Anne, Dr. Fandango, Mr. SuperHappySunshineSmiles and Sweetie Pie. We played a few games with them, which Justin considered one of the best gifts he recieved.

Ugh, heartburn. lemme get some milk.

OK.

I know that not everyone does Christmas cards, but I'm curious.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What is the ratio of sent to recieved of Christmas cards for you or your family this year?

Don't include the cards you got from businesses or your dentist.

GET IN THE CAR

Dear QotD?ers,

Guess who I get to see tomorrow? A NEWLY ENAGED BRENDA!!
Guess what I should be doing more of tonight? DECLUTTERING THE HOUSE FOR HER VISIT! and maybe some more laundry.
This baby isn't interested in housework. This baby is interested in finding corners of my abdomen to be uncomfortable in. Thanks baby.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Will you be doing any traveling this holiday season?

We will. We'll be staying in Texas, but going north, going east and going west. and south, if you consider work commuting as part of travel.

Love,
The Asker.

they spelled my name wrong at least 5 times.

Dear QotD?ers,

Don't forget to look at yesterday's comments for my responses to your answers.

TodayI went to the dentist, had blood taken for testing AND had another ultrasound.
I have two miniature cavities, the test results will inform the endocrinologist, and LBB is looking like a healthy 26 week old fetus. overall = success.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Would you pay for a copy of an old yearbook (say one of yours, or your parents')? Let's say about $10 for an electronic copy or $20 for a hard copy.

Dear QotD?ers,

I love making marshmalows and then cutting them into fun shapes with cookie cutters. and then I can give people snowflake shaped marshmallows!

We watched The Happening this evening. My what a strange movie. I will not recommend it to you. It made me feel bad about plants.

Tonight (Monday) is the peak of the Gemenid meteor shower. It also marks Justin and my 8-year Kiss-a-versary. That's right. I marked our first kiss on the calendar.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Do you remember your first kiss, or your first kiss with someone special?

from the kitchen, with love.

Dear QotD?ers,

Pregnancy is weird. There are just new weird things happening every day.

My favorite way to warm up is to be in cozy pajamas under a cozy blanket. Perhaps with Justin, but only if his feet aren't cold. Speaking of Justin, it was his birthday on Friday!!!!!

This weekend we went out of town for Jackie's Bridal shower (hi Jackie!) and a surprise 50th birthday party for my aunt. The first was very successful, and I was one of the hostesses, so I mean it. The second was in the evening after it had gotten cold, and I was getting tired. It was wonderful and sweet and there was a slide show of pictures. But I was about done at 9:30. Justin and I danced 1 1/2 songs.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What are your favorite Christmastime goodies to make, share or recieve?

brrrrrr fixer

Dear QotD?ers,

Excellent news: I finished one of my crafty crafts. The Christmas Card Display Wreath is complete! I even have 5 cards on display.

Sad news: Justin forgot to pack bread in the lunchbox. Instead of a ham and cheese sammich I had ham and cheese on ritz crackers. It wasn't so bad, but took some work to cut up my ham and cheese in smaller bits. I really wish it was watermellon season. That would be delicious.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
When it is SUPER COLD outside, what is your favorite way to warm up?

Love,

it's a boring one.

Dear QotD?ers,

I currently have two crafty projects and I wish I had the time/energy to do them, because they are Christmas crafty projects. I'm making a card displaying wreath from an embroidery hoop, clothes pins and ribbon. This one is actually in progress. i just need to do the ribboning part. Then I want to make a tree skirt. I've got fabric and I've made a pattern. I just need to get cutting. That part always makes me the most nervous. there's no turning back once you've destroyed the fibers of that beautiful, large piece of fabric.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What did you have for lunch?

CRAFTY CRAFTY CRAFTS!

Dear QotD?ers,

Well, we don't have a catapult, explosives or a sledgehammer to massively destroy the pumpkin. We also don't have any sort of composting heap. Hmm, maybe Justin's parents will take it for their compost heap. Otherwise, we'll just throw it away. Sorry. If any of you want to come pick it up, that's fine by me.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What is your current or last crafty activity/project?

Punkin'

Dear QotD?ers,

At Target today, I spent exactly $20.00. It was magical! And then I used a gift card, so I didn't even spend money. I love that sort of shopping.

I spent a lot of this evening decorating the house for Christmas. It looks pretty festive around here. Justin helped decorate the tree. We bought a new, artificial tree this year. It's 7 1/2' tall and has rainbow twinkle lights. This is an amazing upgrade from the 3', $10 tree from Walmart that we had been using for 5 years. I'll have to post a picture for you sometime.

We still need to put lights in the bushes and maybe the trees outside. And do something with our last fall decoration.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What should we do with an uncarved pumpkin we've had sitting on our front porch since Halloween?

Loooove,
The Asker

Tuesday, November 30, 2010

it's almost like winter, or something

Dear QotD?ers,

Look! I'm here again! as soon as I get done with this I'm going to blow-dry my hair, but until then I'm typing and looking at our Christmas tree. it has rainbow twinkle lights. At some point we'll put decorations on it, probably this weekend.

Today's Question of the Day? is:

How would you describe the coldness where you live, in 25 words or more?

Thanksgiving

Howdy Hey!

How has your month been without me? My month has been better than expected. My health is improving and my baby is developing normally. hooray! I'm already sharing detailed information about my pregnancy by e-mails and facebook, so if you want to hear more about it, just let me know and I'll catch you up. Othewise, let's get onto the question!

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What are you thankful for?

I'm thankful that I was able to enjoy many large delicious meals over my Thanksgiving holiday. It was a serious worry that I'd be feeling crummy, cranky, tired or too nauseas to eat much or enjoy any of it. But I ate hearty meals: Thursday ham dinner, Friday Thanksgiving lunch, Friday night fish fry, Saturday morning pancakes, Saturday lunch soup and MEAT. I think I gained 3 pounds, and I hope I can keep them.

The List

Guest Asker Anne returns!
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Question of the Day...or Month

This summer we started a new game which I called The Lists.

Someone would start a list in the morning and everyone follow suit, more or less, throughout the day. It was fun, especially when we had company this summer and we made them participate. An example list from this summer:

Nick is legit.
Bob is real.
Anne is amazing.
Jessica is the best.
Jacob is three ducks in a man costume.

I do not know how to make The List game into a question, or maybe I just am not taking the time, but here is a start for the game:

Anne is mathematical.

It's only been a month.....

Dear QotD?ers,

Hey everyone. I know you've missed QotD? I'm still working on feeling better. I've made A LOT of progress. I was diagnosed with hyperthyroidism which is likely the main sorce of my nausea, miserableness and weightloss (that's right, weightloss. pregnant ladies are not supposed to lose weight.) I'm on medication for that, which I attribute to my improvement. Again, if you'd like to be kept up on how I'm doing, let me know. I'm trying a bi-weekly e-mail update.

If you are reading this at the blog website, take a look near the upper right hand corner. There's a baby progress bar! You can see how far along I am and how many days I have left (assuming the average 40 week pregnancy.)

Now for some of that visual progress.

can you tell I'm getting more rotund? I'm not sure that I can.

Today's Question of the Day? is:

Last week was the 8th Annual QotD? Hug Week! How many different people did you hug? one point per person, 3 points if it was a QotD?er, 5 points if it was The Asker.

Dinner Revelations

I had three consecutive weeks that contained one evening of Meet the Teacher Nights. This year the middle child decided he would not accompany me so that the teachers would feel free to discuss him. This made me laugh, as I was sure that I was not bound to hear anything different that I would have with his presence.

One evening, before leaving, I turned to our daughter and said, "I will clean your dishes for you if you will clean up your room and all the toys in the front room from earlier today."

She protested.

"Mom, I am getting older. Getting older means that I am growing up and becoming a woman. And being a woman means DISHES."

I might have laughed at this, if that ton of bricks was not sitting on my chest preventing me from breathing.

Years ago, my oldest made this notation when I picked him up from school.

"You know, teenage girls look just like women. Except women have bigger dupas and hair on their face."

I am still crawling out from under that ton of bricks. Ouch.

So the big question is:

How would you have finished the sentence "And being a woman means....?"

Just so I am clear on this with everyone, I would not have defined womanhood as dishes! And also, so we are very clear,if Dr. Fandango responds no more after this question, you can assume he was badly injured.

This weekend my children all praised me for how I handle my anger and frustration.

I was ironing clothes for the upcoming week. The iron popped and that was it. Another iron dead and useless. The third in about seven months.

I walked out into the front room and asked Nick to put on some goggles and work shoes. He responded fairly quickly to this request.

I gave him the defunct iron and asked him to smash it into unrecognizable pieces for me.

Suddenly there was a flurry of interest in what Nick was doing. Jacob and his friend decided they would love to help. Jacob insisted that what they needed were firecrackers. AND I DID NOT PROTEST.

They were unable to explode the darned thing, but did take turns with a sledge hammer beating the thing into the ground. Nick thanked me for giving him that task.

We all piled in the truck and went to the dollar store for a new iron. I will listen to no commentary on purchasing an iron from the dollar.

Once we got home, I pulled out the new iron and, out of habit, started to file the instruction manual. Two steps into that process, I stopped.

"I will NOT save another manual for a stupid iron. I hate the stupid manual. You know what, I want this to burn. Let's go burn some instructions!"

I had four kids flying out the door extolling me.

Well, I can't be the only anger person out here. So.....

What was the last thing that you wanted to smash to pieces?

I return! briefly

Dear QotD?ers,

It's me! I'm back for a quick question and update and then we'll get back to the guests.

It's about time for me to tell you what my big project is. There's still no visible progress, but I've been working very hard on it.

I am pregnant!

This is our first public announcement (because I love you best. facebook can wait a few more days), so don't be upset that you haven't heard about it yet. Here are some of the details:
-we are very excited
-at the end of my first trimester
-due date will be sometime mid-March
-we do not plan on learning the gender
-I am still dealing with nausea. This is the biggest problem and I why I have been so reclusive lately. I put all my energy into drinking, eating and resting - and going to work because I have to. I'm on some anti-nausea medication, which has been helping. At this point I do not require further advice on managing nausea. I've heard it all and it hasn't helped me. I am a sad sad pregnant lady. Please put me in your prayers and/or happy thoughts.

If you want further details, e-mail or call me. I'll try to keep from sharing too much information on this blog, unless it's really fun and exciting information.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What's the best food to get at the fair?

He returns!

Dear Answerers,

Yesterday I was sitting in on an Aerospace engineering class. The teacher thought the functions of an air planes "six pack" to the students. This is a control panel of six different meters of which include a Vertical speed indicator, blah, blah, blah, and an attitude indicator. The name of which I found to be quite hilarious. Half an hour later the young engineers started bickering about who was right about which plane function did what. After a few moments of this ruckus the teacher asked for the class to "Please shut up and sit down". It was at that time that I ever so kindly suggested that maybe they should all check their attitude indicators.

So the question I have for you is, How many times have you crashed a plane(real or imaginary)?

Sincerely,
Dr. Fandango, Asker of Questions

We have a new Guest Asker today! It's everyone's favorite villian, Dr. Fandango!

~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~

Yesterday I had some free time during my teaching job under the alias of "Mr. Smith" to go into the cafeteria. I sat down and collaborated with some of my coworkers and mostly talked about funny looking students behind their back (as we know all teachers do). Eventually dementia set in and some of them got up to go to the store. I asked very nicely and specifically if they would get me a single banana nut muffin and some regular, sweetened iced tea. They agreed and I gave them an undisclosed amount of money for this NOT TOO HARD TO FOLLOW TRANSACTION.

After another 20 minutes of poking of fun at students; they returned from a store 2 minutes down the street with a package of twenty blueberry muffins and a large container of lemon tea! I was slightly perturbed by this. Needless to say they were both executed immediately. I only had five minutes till class so I ate all twenty muffins and had an upset stomach for the rest of the day.

So my question to you fellow question answerers is, What is the most disappointing gift that you have ever received?

Sincerely,
Dr. Fandango, Wonderer of why teachers with rules can't
follow rules from teachers

Asking A La Anne

My weekend was full of suffering.

"I know what our problem is. You have kitchenhiemers. You go into the kitchen and completely forget why you are there and what the kitchen is for."

"Pi is an irrational number. It just goes on and on without ever making sense. Pi is a woman."

I am still deluged with paperwork from the schools. With all the technology available to us, I am astounded that the schools have not found a better way to keep records. And I cannot express how much I bristle at the paperwork that asks me what language we speak, if we are migratory workers, if we are suffering financial hardships. All these ridiculous government standards that are sure to save us all, and there are still kids who do not have their needs met....because there is no time to give them the support they need to learn when everyone is so busy filling out forms.

I am all for meeting Jackie at Brookshire's!!

I have found a new cartoon that I love. Adventure Time! It is hilarious.

If you wanted to describe yourself as a formula, what formula would you be?

Asking A La Anne

In the quest for the new clarinet, we spent several weekends accompanying my mom and dad on their weekly trip into Dallas. They go to Central Market, Goody Goody's and Whole Foods every Saturday. One weekend we went to the Asian market as well, after we ate at the Chinese restaurant where they serve dim sum. It has been very fun.

Central Market shopping is very different from my standard jaunt to Brookshire's to see all my best friends. Mostly because it is shopping mayhem. People stop anywhere, blocking aisles, cut across your path, bump into you and proceed as if they are the only people in the store. No one says excuse me, and if you offer that statement, no one responds. Sheeesh! I never!

Central Market also has all sorts of sample stands, which add to the problem, but certainly make shopping more interesting. However, we have learned that they will not allow children to sample the coffee. This was okay with my kids last week, as Central Market celebrated Hatch Chile Festival and ALL their samples included hatch chilies, even the coffee.

Not allowing kids to sample coffee seems crazy to me. I am sure they would not think twice about allowing children to try soda samples. I don't understand the whole "coffee is evil and not for children" mentality. I have always seen this as a Southern thing.

Another Southern habit that I have never adjusted to is allowing children to call adults by their first name. I have this itch to correct those few children that want to call me Miss Anne by telling them my name is Miss Anthrope.

By what name are you most comfortable with children using?

Asking A La Anne

This week marked the beginning of school for an 11th, 7th and 3rd grader in our home. It was all fun and good until the 7th grader revealed the team he was on this year.

His school has a theme every year and they name the teams of teachers and students in accordance. This year the theme is Rock and Roll. The middle schooler is on Team ABBA. The other teams are Team Aerosmith and Team Monkeys.

Now, really? Team ABBA??? And in middle school?? They should have just gone with Team Queen, because their music was better. The high schooler and I decided to keep things fair the seventh grade should have Team Queen, Team ABBA and Team Elton.

And how does Team ABBA compare with Team Aerosmith? That is just mean.

And Team Monkeys?? Are we really gonna count them as a rock band??

Okay, that is a lot of questions and you're probably wondering if I got confused on the concept. But here is the only question participants need to answer:

If you were in charge of naming the seventh grade Rock and Roll teams, what band would you choose?

ducks and suspense.

Dear QotD?ers,

Man I have weird dreams. Last night there was mud boggin' out behind the old farmstead. There's always been a tiny creek back there, but in my dream it was a huge river. There was this crazy lever/ramp that all the atvs and SUVs drove on, hauling their boat (by chain), and if they got enough momentum it would swing them from the river bank to the dock. This was pretty entertaining. A four-wheeler managed it, but then a Suburban tried and slid back down to the bank. WHAT KIND OF DREAM IS THAT?

One of my favorite traffic signs is DUCK CROSSING. I find it delightful that ducks hold such a permanent residency that they get to have their own crosswalk. And then I look for the ducks, and even if I can't find them, I imagine a mama duck and lots of ducklings scrambling across the road. Awwww!

OK, now for some news. I've started working on a really big project. It's taking up a lot more time and energy than I originally anticipated. However, it's really important to me, so I'm putting Question of the Day? on hold. I'll try to get a QotW? in at times, but I just cannot handle a daily commitment right now. I thank you all in advance for being patient and understanding. I'm not going to give you any details about the project, because it's still early on and I want to make some more progress on it before I tell you about it. suspense!

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Would you participate if there was a Guest Asker?
Would you be interested in being a Guest Asker yourself?

Did you miss me on my unnanounced week QotD? vacation?
Life got busy and the first things to get dropped are at-home internet time. I need to get a new schedule worked out, so QotD? might be coming at some random times in the evening.

My question was a week old, but we DID have a big event this weekend: Justins 10-yr high school reunion! I only knew one guy, a friend of Justin's that I had met before, but I got to meet a few of his other friends that came. Most of the attendees were people he didn't remember or even know when he was in H.S., but I'm glad we went. There were some delicious little egg rolls as part of the snacks being served. score!

Dear QotD?ers,

My answer would have been 'yes, i'm a cold natured person, so I could live without the AC' BUT. Wednesday I had to go outside in the middle of the day and the heat and humidity were so thick I almost couldn't breath. It was misssssserable. People who have to work out in that amaze me. So my new answer is 'not on the gulf coast.. but probably anywhere else if I had a good breeze... but not the gulf coast, please don't make me do it.'

OK, here's some big news. That tropical disturbane that was just aiming for Florida has now decided to become a Tropical Storm and Bonnie heard about the great air conditioning we have here in Texas, so she's changed her travel plans to arrive more westerly than Florida. I'll keep you updated if our lives are impacted by this bothersom potential guest.

Sorry about the absence yesterday. I wasn't feeling good so I went to bed early. Wow you get a lot of sleep when that happens! But man, I didn't have time for anything else.

Pardon me, do you have any?

Dear QotD?ers,

Ketchup, yellow mustard, poppyseed dressing, worshestershire sauce, steak sauce, soy sauce, tobasco.. and that's all without going to look!

Two different news sources today were telling me about people's desire to drink raw, unpastuerized milk. Those people are crazy. Pastuerization is what keeps us from getting diseases, people! If you are drinking raw milk, please follow my advice and stop. There's no gaurantee that raw milk doesn't have cow poop germs. That does NOT do a body good.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
If you were parked at an intersection and the car next to you rolled down it's window and an old British man wanted to ask you a question, would you share your grey poupon, mint gum, or other item he requested, laugh uproariously, or something else altogether?

Dear QotD?ers,

I have to dissapoint you. I didn't do anything particularly Mucky on Friday. I went to work, but that's not quite enough. And I didn't make up for it this weekend either. It was pretty lazy - recovering from a long work day with movies, tv shows, reading (ooh I love to read!). I did encounter some productivity when I took the recyling to the center and stopped by the library. and I may have folded some clothes on Friday night. I use shampoo and conditioner. If I'm in a rush, or am really tired and don't want to spend so much time on a shower, I will use Justin's 2-in-1. Shh, don't tell him.

As of today, both of my parents are retired. Congratulations Dad! (Mom, pass that message on please. We'll call this weekend to discuss wells and windmills.) They are going to be full of adventure stories, I just know it.

Assuming you are reading this on Friday, It's the 9th Annual Mucky-Muck Day! A day when everyone is encouraged to do something mucky. This may include actual muck, dirt, grime or filth, or just be a tedious task that is onerous an zero fun.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What are you going to do (or have you already done) for Mucky-Muck Day!?

Dear QotD?ers,

About the only frozen treat I can actually remember getting from an icecream truck is ninja turtle ice cream with bubblegum eyes. radical!

Sometimes I feel very powerful at work. Today, beyond all the frustration, was one of those days. I'm sure tomorrow it will go back to normal. so intense.

THERE'S MUSIC!

Dear QotD?ers,

If I ever saw a double rainbow in person, I would be delighted. Rainbows are a great feature of nature with a fantastic science explanation. WAVELENGTHS!
There's a crazy guy on the internet that saw one and made a video of his reaction: which was crazy. Then some other people on the internet made it into a song. There is a bleeped word near the end, so view/listen at your own discretion. The song cracks me up!

I know that a strawberry popscicle is not ice cream, but it is close enough, when it comes from an ice cream truck. Today I had a chocolate cone!

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What's your favorite frozen treat from an ice cream truck?

double rainbow all the way across the sky

Dear QotD?ers,

Once, at a fancy wedding reception, the dinner included three types of mashed potatoes: sweet, regular and something else. It seemed so decadent, having three potatoes on one plate. I was incredibly tickled and enjoyed them all!

Today was ice cream day at work. I got a strawberry popsicle.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What does a double rainbow mean to you?

mmmmmmmmmm, potatoes

Dear QotD?ers,

Did you see that? Our weekend guest commented on the last post! Thanks Moana, we are so glad you could come. We ate good food, saw Toy Story 3 (and cried, except for Justin, who denies crying), and played about every non-traditional boardgame we own. And all the while we chatted and gossiped and told stories about our lives. It was the best sort of weekend.
Today's Question of the Day? is:

not-Kofi is coming!

Dear QotD?ers,

The bear in my caroon movie would be a koala (not a real bear, but it's my movie) and his friend would be a walabi. These two would have fun, australian accented adventures in their hot air baloon looking for the last kukabura in a gum tree.

In other news, a great friend of mine is flying into town in the afternoon. It may be rainig a lot, limiting our activities to those indoors.

bears in baloons

Dear QotD?ers,

I think you know what I want more of for year three: more participation! Having a personal blog is totally sweet, but when you QotD?ers join in, it becomes a conversation. If you don't like my question, you don't have to answer it. You could comment on the random story I've shared with you, or share your own. I won't mind. TamiJean and Anne do it all the time and it's a lot of fun. I know you are out there... reading this.. all sneaky like.
Also, I REALLY want to get motivated and do Choose Your Own QotD? Adventure this year.

It started raining again today. Good news though, Hurricane Bonnie won't be making her debut this week. I am particularly glad about this because I have a friend flying in for the weekend and I'd hate for her to have to cancel or come to us with San Antonio when we evacuate.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What animal would you choose to pair with a bear* in a cartoon movie about hot air baloons?

telll me

Dear QotD?ers,

It's about time I answer some of my own questions:
7/6: For the 4th, we packed up some bug repellent, two camp chairs and drove out to the frontage road to watch fireworks. We found this spot last year, and it's pretty great! And then I sang along with the radio on the ride home. They were playing patriotic songs. I really impressed Justin with my singing of the 1812 Overature.
6/29: As Queen, I would force everyone to understand what a kolache is, and how it is different than a pig-in-a-blanket.
6/28: We really only know the good neighbors and the Canadians. I've talked to a few of the others. I still have this plan that we are going to invite our immediate neighbors (all around) for a homemade icecream party some summer weekend.

Good! now that we have all of that squared away, on to the question!!!!! !!

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What do you want to see more of from QotD?as we go into the third year of blog form?

I'm tracking your activities.

Dear QotD?ers,

I would get QotD? blog some question mark socks. Of course, I'd get myself a pair to match.

It has been an eventful weekend. We went roller skating on Saturday night with one of my high-school friends. I hadn't been since Junior High, and started off a little wobbly. By the end of the evening I was doing great... until... UNTIL... the end of the girls-only song, as Stacy and I were getting off the floor, I totally bit it. I fell back, and I'm still not sure how I landed, but based on my aches and pains, I'm guessing I held onto a railing with my right hand - taking most of the fall impact, then onto my butt and right forearm. I have no bruises, surprisingly enough. Then tonight we went over to a couple's house for dinner and played 3 board games with them! Cascarones, Robots and Space Depot. It was a lot of fun. Man, I like having friends that want to play games.

Today's Question of the Day? is:

Dear QotD?ers,

Today was a busy day! Last minute meetings and giving tours! This evening I tried to paint my nails with a phase-of-the-moon theme. One of the thumbs turned out well, but the rest look super messy. I'll probably repaint the rest solid. There will likely NOT be a QotD? tomorrow. Why is that? I'll be enjoying a triple feature of the Twilight Saga with Mom and Jackie.

I was in training all day. They provided us with a donut breakfast and a chick-fil-a lunch. On my way from training to the plant, to pick up Justin, there was a small grass fire . There was a cop! but I don't know what he thought he'd get accomplished by himself.

Dear QotD?ers,

Did you miss me yesterday? I did too. My computer decided to go blank, unexpectedly, and Justin was already asleep, so I decided to let it sleep.

Sunday afternoon the kittens were picked up and taken home. I really really liked having them over. Petting kittens, cuddling kittens, purring kittens = all wonderful. Dear QotD?ers,

I took a few days off last week. Some days I feel like I'm not providing you with a quality QotD? and I need to take a break and reflect on what I like best about this blog.

I really like when I'm able to tell you something exciting about my day, not just "i'm boring. ho hum, another day of work." I really like when I have a well thought of question, not just "uhh, it's 10:25 and I need a question. what's sitting on my desk? what cnn news story could I twist into a question?" I really, really like when my questions are interesting enough that they get many responses. I'm not just talking about my dedicated QotD?ers, though I love you very much. It's all the rest of you - the ones who tell me that you read this blog every day but don't answer. What have you got to lose? I don't care if your answer isn't witty or earthshattering or poignant. I care that you enjoying this blog that exists because of the answers it gets.

Dear QotD?ers,

My worst summer job was working for Anne. JUST KIDDING! I now love gel pens because of her. My worst summer job was an 'internship' for the Department of Justice. I reviewed performance appraisals and cross checked them to this book of print-outs. HUNDREDS AND HUNDREDS of these. The best part of the summer was when there was paper to shred. hooray! I went back for a few weeks during winter break, only to find they had mixed up my piles of 'COMPLETE!' and 'NOT COMPLETE!' and had to redo my work. boo.

Did you know that hurrican season has already started? And the winds are a'changing to La Niña, which promotes a more terrible season with increased storm chances? It's true. Dear QotD?ers,

Yes, I can swim! I took lessons as a child and as a small child. I'm not graceful, and I won't win any races, but I can swim to survive and have fun. We went to the pool this afternoon and I learned that I should swim without contacts or with goggles.

Other weekend activities include: fighting (and beating) the weeds in the back corner flower bed, library, recycle center, using gift cards at Walmart and only spending $.27, eating at a chinese diner for lunch, buying a NEW IRON!, using a NEW IRON! I never though I would ever be excited about an iron, but it is POWERFUL. The steam! oh, that old iron was so sad and ineffective compared to my new iron. I love it.

There was a health fair at work today. I learned that I am terrible at redneck horseshoes, I have low blood pressure, flat feet, a stiff spine and that large dill pickles and candy are acceptable give-aways at a health fair.

For the most part, I think I would like my clone. We could have fun doing all the goofy stuff that Justin isn't interested in, like dancing in the grocery store and watching So You Think You Can Dance. Dear QotD?ers,

let's look at my goals:

Get together with old friends at least once a month. I'm doing pretty well! June is still open
· Go to bed before 11pm on schoolnights, once accomplished for a month, knock it down by 8 minutes until at 10:15 . I'm not doing so well on this one. I am definatly not at 10:15, as you can tell by the post time of this entry.
· Exercise on the weekly, either brisk walking or BIKE RIDING!! Maybe join a class at the Y Have not joined a class. have not done a good job of keeping up a weekly exercise either. I'm dissapointed in myself on this one.
· Finish home-izing the house (decorations, painting, hanging up pictures) work in progress. Things are up, more things will be going up. new couch purchased.
· Make QotD? Even better. I'm going to need help on this one. I feel like I've hit a slump and all my questions are pretty lame.
· Keep up with Amanda’s 365 picture blog adventure. SUCCESS! well, recently I've taken a picture every day, i just need to post it.

We played Carrccassonnee again at lunch today. There was also some sunshine rain, which makes me feel good inside.

Dear QotD?ers,

Friday morning I slept in some, got some audio books a the libary, then drove to College Station to meet Sadie and have lunch with my brother. Then we road-tripped to Midlothian for Mom's retirement party! There was cake, punch, gag gifts and some crying. Those people really like her! and 4 of her former students showed up... and only 3 of them were her children. Afterwards, we fed ravenous fishes, ate fishes ravenously and then Matt, Jackie, Mom and I played Pictionary Man. Saturday I slept in! hooray! Then it was an afternoon with just Mom and me. We had lunch, saw Letters to Juliet, shopped around. Then a relaxed evening at home with Dad. Sunday was church, pancakes, a nap and a drive home, where I got to see Justin again! He cooked some delicious food and we watched a movie. Monday I slept in (again!!) watched TV, watched Slumdog Millionaire. I really love 4-day weekends.

Dear QotD?ers,

I really am a much happier person when I get to sleep until 7:30. I took a day of vacation today so I could get some errands done (including a hair trim) and just enjoy some quiet, stress free alone time. I watched a movie, read a book, painted my nails, watched the last episode of Glee. It was a great day.

POP UP

Dear QotD?ers,

I just finished watching the series finale of LOST. I won't spoil anything, but I will say that it was the most fantastic 'clip show' I've ever seen and I am happily satisfied with the ending.

I have a few favorite muppets: Grover (super and normal), Sweetums, Dr. Teeth, Robin. I've been thinking hard about who my least favorite muppet might be. I know a lot of you picked Miss Piggy, but she's not all that bad. Without her we wouldn't have Pigs in Space. I pick the fierys, from Labyrinth. They were really creepy and that's still my least favorite part of that movie.

Dear QotD?ers,

We watched yesterday's episode of Lost this evening and I was SUPER PUMPED when I saw the copper lobster mold that I own in a set. You would probably not even notice it unless you were me and had this thing in the room with you. MY LOBSTER WAS ON LOST!!

For field day, I had the most fun with the 3 legged race (because my partner and I won in 3rd grade!) and then that one time... there was a bubble gum station! It was about getting bubble gum and seeing who could blow the biggest bubble. That is some serious fun for an elementry school kid.

Dear QotD?ers,

Justin and I played a game over lunch today. It was fun and I look forward to tomorrow's rematch. I'm headed to bed pretty soon. Tomorrow evening will be full of dishwashing!

Most of my experience with zombies have been pretty fun. I only watch silly zombie movies or shows or games, since I'm not one to favor the gruesome. I have a little song I used to sing for my college roomate when she was playing a spooky computer game when zombies would reanimate from the floor and shuffle towards her slowly. ~clears her throat~ Zombies get up and do a happy dance! ~does a shuffly dance~ [repeat] Thank you, thank you.

Dear QotD?ers,

And so begins another week. Our original weekend plans were derailed by some unfortunate things at work. However, we were productive and also got to see Justin's parents on Mother's day.
I'm hoping this coming week will be much better. Only 4 work days and then some fantastic weekend guests!

At the request of a highly participatory QotD?ers, we are going to switch things up. I declare this week 'Jeopardy Format Week! Please, No Celebrities.' That was fun! Go ahead and look at yestesrday's comments to see the correct answer. Dr. Fandango was correct with the final question, but only because he built upon so many other good questions. Should we do this again some time?

A former boss went to Vegas this weekend and saw the Beatles themed Cirque du Soleil show. Because he's such a nice guy, he got me something from the gift store that I love in two ways: Novelty socks + The Beatles = Yellow Submarine socks. I'm wearing them today. I wore my yellow submarine t-shirt under my button down to match, though no-one but Justin knew.

TWENTY QUESTIONS! or so.

Dear QotD?ers,

I didn't answer the last question yesterday! oops. My favorite form of insect control is frogs and toads. I'm convinced that enough of those in our yard would save me from bugs and make spiders unnecesary.

This past saturday morning we ran errands: recycling center, bank, library (where my bag broke and spilled books all over the sidewalk! oh no!) and then to a furniture store to look at couches.

This evening we took a walk through the neighborhood. Justin wouldn't run through the sprinklers with me, what a bum! I'm sure there are at least 3 of you out there who would run through sprinklers with me :]

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Let's play 20 questions. I'm thinking of an object. What question will you ask to determine it's identity?

I'll try to answer the questions as frequently as able.

Dear QotD?ers,

This weekend my older brother Mike rode 150 miles in support of multiple sclerosis research. That is impressive and valiant! Good job, my favorite older brother!

In other news, we had an extremely productive weekend. Lots of cleaning, errands, some shopping, new games and a new recipe effort that didn't turn out as neat as we hoped.

Today's Question of the Day? is

What did you do this past Saturday morning?

killum

Dear QotD?ers,

From Harry Potter, I will take Neville Longbottom - the clutsy Hogwarts student that tries very hard at magic, but isn't very good. From I Love Lucy, I will take Lucy's over-ambition to be in show business - despite being not very good. Neville and his thickly accented Russian wife travel the world. She is a performing 'magician' for muggles. Every week he tries to get into the show as an opening act with some new trick. On occasions when he does manage a spot, he fails most hilariously and the audience thinks he is a comedy act.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
What is your favorite method of insect control?

I have something very particular in mind for my answer...

I Love Muggles

Dear QotD?ers,

Sometimes I think I need to have a more exciting life if I'm going to blog. Granted, this blog isn't so much about me as it is about random questions and everyone's participation, but still.
Today was marked by messy salads. The lunch salad was stored in a non-water tight container and the dressing leaked out. THE LUNCHBOX SMELLS LIKE CILANTRO! Dinner salad was greek in nature on flat bread, but the flatbread was crumbly, so it got all over my hands - it sure was tastey though!

I like to polka, chicken dance, waltz (it makes me feel graceful and beautiful!), robot dance and odd-ball techno/sitting in the car dancing. I try to make Justin laugh with that last one.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What would the plot be to a Harry Potter/I Love Lucy spinoff show or movie?

DANCY DANCE

Dear QotD?ers,

I worse some new socks today. I really love stripes. This evening I started watching the Pride and Prejudice mini-series. I think it would be incredibly hilarious if someone edited in some zombies to this movie like they added to the novel.

I love the original Willy Wonka. There certainly are some scary parts, but the never upset me. (not all all like ET still does). I refuse to see the remake with Johnny Depp. Clone OompaLoompas? different songs? no thank you.

Today's Question of the Day? is:

Dear QotD?ers,

I recycle everything that the county recycle center will take. I support a higher thermostat setting, turn off electronics at the surge protector/power strip to keep away the electricity vampires. Almost all of our laundry is down with cold water instaed of hot. carpool. I reuse A LOT of paper at work. the backsides of printouts are great for scrapwork.

This weekend I pulled a lot of weeds in the yard. Sadly, we have some invading grasses that are not so easy to displace.

Dear QotD?ers,

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY TO MY PARENTS today/yesterday!

Day two of the neti pot was somewhat better. I have created a new slogan: Neti Pot - Drowning You from the Nose Up! I am still not magically better feeling and have a fever tonight. But I also don't get dizzy under mild spinning around.

i like chicken tortilla soup, church picnic fried chicken, WingsN'More chicken tenders, to name a few ways.

Dear QotD?ers,
Today I got a neti pot. This is the face I made before I used it: it is not much difference than the face I made after I used it. I can't really say that it feeels like it's done any good yet. I'll try again tomrrow.

I'm very loyal to ivory bar soap and blue bell ice cream. I'm pretty consistant with shampoo/conditioner, but every once in a while I'll change it up.

What is the best way to eat chicken?

Dear QotD?ers,

My allergies are hitting me again this evening. I don't know if it is something about this season in particular, my new town, my new house or the fact that I live so much closer to real plants.

I totally ate three flavors of ice cream tonight after dinner. sooo goood.

Dear QotD?ers,

I ate so much delicious meatloaf and mashed potatoes for dinner that I don't have enough room for any of the 3 flavors of Blue Bell we bought because it was on sale (3/$10!!) I'm really upset by this because I love to eat ice cream. Maybe tomorrow I'll pace myself better.

I like making wishes on eyelashes. You find a loose one (on someone's cheek usually), press it between your thumb and pointer finger, make a wish and pick a finger. When you unpress your fingers, if the eyelash is on the finger you chose, your wish will come true! If the eyelash is on neither and has dissapeared... it's magic.

Dear QotD?ers,

Busy weekend! Friday I went to the library and picked up all 7 Chronicles of Narnia books. I'd seen the BBC version on PBS and the two Disney movies, but not actually read the books. it's about time. And they are relatively short, so I figure I can go through all 7 before they are do.
Saturday we went to Schlitterbahn in Galveston, heated indoor season. It's not work $28/adult. But we were fortunate enough to have some good friends send us free tickets. It was totally worth $Free/adult.
Today was church, laundry, grocery shopping. Not uber exciting, but productive.

My parlor would be named Your Pizza, as in "How would you like Your Pizza?" "Is Your Pizza for here or to go?" hee hee

You should be feeling physically strong, healthy, and energetic today, Virgo,
although you could also be a little lightheaded. You could experience the
sensation of wandering around in a daze with your feet on the ground and your
head in the clouds. Achieving balance won't be easy, but you should be able to
manage it today. Concentrate on activities that involve spiritual or imaginative
faculties today.
I can't say that any of that matches my day. Nice try, astrologers!

Dear QotD?ers,

You know what? I want to put a packaged Twinkie in my time capsule. And I'd leave instructions to have someone eat it, just to see if it really would last for decades as viable food. I'd find a book about the current space program, and shove that in there. When opened they can laugh that this government was so dumb as to cancel Orion. Or laugh that this government was so dumb as to think about really doing it. I'd throw in a tabloid, some legos and whatever novel is on the best seller's list right now.

Dear QotD?ers,

I am sneaky almost every weeknight when Justin is in bed before I am. I'm usually finishing up my shower or brushing my teeth when he is falling fast asleep, so I surreptitiously creep around the bedroom, using my phone display as a furtive flashlight, so I won't wake him up. Some nights he's not sleeping at all and I'll go through ALL THAT EFFORT, slide into bed and hear "Goodnight."

Dear QotD?ers,

Nothing feels quite like having finished washing a giant pile of dirty dishes. I was able to experience that yesterday. Aaaaah. And I got to take a delicious nap this afternoon while we watched Pirates of the Caribean, after playing our new pirate game, even. I like weekends.
I don't particularly like Sunday nights, though, because that's the time when I have to start thinking about going to work again.

The charity I'm most attached to is St. Jude's Hospital. Probably because of Mathathon in middle school. Oh yes, doing math problems for charity. And for sick kids whose family can't pay for treatment.

Dear QotD?ers,

Once again, another busy and bustling day at work. The best part was probably the strawberries at lunch - they were beautiful and delicious.

I could have my bilboard say "Never Doubt Me Again." that would be for Justin and i'd put the billboard on the way to work, right after the Justin brand western wear store, so it'd get his attention.
But likely I'd do a billboard to the general population that said "Don't be afraid to sing out loud. Who cares who is watching?" and I'd put it on I-45 on the north side of town, where I've experienced the worst traffic.

Dear QotD?ers,

Thanks to the efforts of my nieces and husbands, I present to you an authentic Texas flag.

On Saturday, twice, I played the part of the Easter Bunny's helper and hid eggs for my nieces and 2nd cousin. The oldest is 7, so it was pretty simple. The hardest hiding spot was under a pot, and they found that one! And as you can see by my above picture, there was also a great deal of wildflower picking.

Oh what a beautiful moOOOOOorning!

Dear QotD?ers,

I took a holiday on Friday and a good thing too. Thursday was very busy with household chores, errands and bolstering my immune system. Friday was busy with packing, travel and family time. Here are the two Easter eggs I died. They would have turned out better with additional preperation, but for a last minute dye job - not so bad! I had a really wonderful Easter weekend. I got to see a lot of my family, including Mom, Jackie and Mike (hi mike! don't forget to answer today!) Jackie's engagement ring looks beautiful. My nieces are adorable. I picked hill country wild flowers! (fancy picture will be shared tomorrow!)
My voice occasionally sounded froggy, but I'm feeling better. I am well rested and restored for a full 5-day work week.

more than we bargained for.

Dear QotD?ers,

This weekend, Justin and I decided to add some color to our yard. However, this is not what we had in mind.
Yes, we found some shallow buried utility cables in our back flower bed as we pulled up some old (mostly dead*) shrubs. We called it in and over the course of the rest of the weekend, 3 seperate dudes came and we now have 3 different colors of spray paint throughout our backyard. with flags! We weren't really given any direction on whether we can plant our new shrubs or not. So for now, they will stay in pots.

Other than that, it was a great weekend! There is a rose bush (orange) and lantana in the front flower bed that should look beautiful together once they are in full bloom.

All of your poems made me smile. Thank you very much for sharing your creativity and your thoughtfulness. I should state that Jackie wins and I now believe the best poems end in Refrigerator.
Work itself wasn't better today. And something exceptionally creepy happened. I discovered a chyrssalis in the skin of a pistachio. It startled me a great deal. This was in the last bit of the pistachio package, so I'm left wondering if I've been eating bugs.

Dear QotD?ers,

around 5:45 Justin's alarm will go off. At 5:55, My phone alarm goes off, every morning. About 5 minutes later my alarm clock will go off. If Justin is NOT out of bed and in the shower, I will grumble and push at him to get out of bed. At this point I should also be getting out of bed. should.

Friday was a lovely day for an 8th birthday and yard work. Unexpectedly, Justin had to work. So I slept in late and went to the library. Saturday was a remarkebly cold and dreary day and alltogether unsuited for yardwork. Sunday was WINDY AS ALL GET OUT, and a little chilly too. But we braved the weather and went out side to pull weeds and fertilize the lawn. Then we had dinner at my favorite restaurant (Gringo's), tried out* desk chairs at OfficeMax, watched some tv, went to church, grocery shopping and now there's chocolate chip cookies! :0 Not a bad way to end a weekend.

Dear QotD?ers,

It was St. Patricks Day! I wore a green long sleeved t-shirt, a green print t-shirt, a green sweater, double layers of green socks and green shoes. AWESOME. I love really random excuses to theme dress in a work appropriate way. and I had a green snack in the afternoon.

I am going to choose a big gala type event. Something where I get to wear a super fancy dress that someone picks out just for me. and they do my hair and makeup and I look famous. oh, and Justin gets to be in a tux, and then we go down a red carpet and the papparazzi is all who's that? they don't look famous. and then I would sit amongst famous movie stars and watch presentations of dancing and music in between awards presentations or speaches promoting a cause. And in the bathroom I meet Kristen Wiig, Sandra Bullock, Whoopi Pizza Hat (who's wearing a pizza hat), Taylor Swift (because she's adorable) and we all make fun of Kristen Stewart. Meanwhile, while waiting for their wives/dates, Justin has met Tom Hanks, that guy who plays Dr. Who, NPH and Bill Nye. Dear QotD?ers,

Oh yes I do like puzzles. I like jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles. I like to race Dad in Sunday Morning Paper Sudoku. The grid-style logic puzzles might be my favorite.

Today we determined that Justin has seen almost all episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation. maybe just 1 or 2 that he hasn't seen. (psst, that's more hours than I've watched of America's Next Top Model.) Then, at the grocery store, I saw orange cauliflower and purple cauliflower. I did not know those existed, but they looked very odd.
