Leftovers 5/5

Dear QotD?ers,
.
Only 20 more days until Christmas! I'm sure I'll be asking lots of Christmas related questions over the next month. We are going to start our Christmas shopping in earnest today.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Since I'm done picking through the plate of your mind about leftovers, are there any thoughts left over that you want to share?
.
If not, you can make fun of how hard I tried to stretch today's question into the theme.
.
Love,
The Asker

You are powerful and determined in this quest! I actually had leftovers last night!

This is mostly because Bob took our friend Paul back to Tyler while Paul's wife, Sandra, stayed back to tie up loose ends after her mother's funeral. Bob had anticipated leaving about noon and returning yesterday evening, but Paul and Bob did not leave until 4.

I had made rice and carne mechada. It should be wonderful as leftovers! I'll let you know.

We gave up on buying gifts a number of years ago. We now give homemade items. This year the gifts are little foot stools for everyone.

Good luck with your shopping!

This is more about potluck dinners than leftovers, but I have a comment...we used to have potlucks at church and large family gatherings over the years, and I always remember the food being so good. But lately, it seems that the food has become grosser and grosser at each gathering I go to, church, Sunday school, family, and today we even had a cookie exchange at MOPS and all the cookies were yucky! Except mine - I brought white chocolate peppermint bark and chocolate covered English toffee. Mine were the first ones gone. Have I just grown more picky, or have others noticed a decline in yumminess at potlucks?

Moo,
I HAVE noticed a decline in potluck tastyness, well depending. The most recent ones that accompany wedding/baby showers at work, all ladies, have been dissapointing. The ones with my work group, mostly men, have been pretty good.

Anne, Does everyone get to help make stools? pick the colors? the style?

I agree about the decline of Potlucks!

Potlucks used to be wonderful occasions......everyone would try to bring their best or tastiest or newest recipe to share.......along with the recipe if someone was interested, etc. Cooking tips would be shared, etc.

Potlucks at school now have salads...with the lettuce/greens still in the bag.......cakes bought from the store, many items not appetizing...
Everyone says they are just busy and don't have time or forgot......

Yes, potlucks have declined......
Very disappointing.........

Asker,

Why, of course. That is the whole point! I actually chose the stools because I wanted to learn woodworking.

We looked at some design ideas, provided some of our own and then decided that, while it would be fun to make each person a different stool design, in practicality, it would be best to make all the same stools. Bob said I would also learn more that way. But we came away with some pretty fun ideas for other projects.

The stools are simple and basic. Each stool will have a different stain or paint color or picture on it to reflect the person it is being made for. That is always the fun part.

Last year we hand stitched little pillows for everyone that were designed to reflect something about that person. We have done paintings, made candles, sock puppets and embellished winter gloves.

I like that each year we learn and try something new. And I like that we always have to think of new things that we can do.

I have had the idea of making lamps on the list for several years, but I am waiting for Jessica to get a bit older.

And so here is my new favorite Nick quote...... "Can't we just be like a normal family and buy a bunch of crap for everyone this year??"

Lesson learned. But the answer was just, "We are not normal. Sorry."
