summer drudge

Dear QotD?ers,

Did you know that hurrican season has already started? And the winds are a'changing to La Niña, which promotes a more terrible season with increased storm chances? It's true. We've already started planning and doing drills at work. This is serious business. For all 5 of us that live on the gulf coast: spend Saturday morning buying water, beans and spaghettios before it's too late!!

The answers Mom and 2nd Mom combined are my answer for yesteday's QotD? I think I'm going to make Labor Day a summer-family-reunion-at-our-house sort of weekend. It was a success last year.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What was the worst summer job you ever had?

Love,
The Asker

My dad did not like for us to have jobs in the summer until after we graduated from high school. Never figured that one out...but I did take on small jobs. The worst one was when I cut off the long sleeves and made short sleeved shirts out of lots of shirts for one of the male teachers at my school. It was time consuming and not very fun. He was thrilled!
Looking forward to seeing you Asker, at the Harris reunion.

I don't think I ever had a terrible summer job. Both of the summer jobs I had taught me a lot, even if they also had terrible aspects to them. One was as a groom at a horse ranch, which I enjoyed, even though it was grueling, low-paying, thankless work. I loved the horses. The other was as a lawn and garden cashier at walmart, where I learned that I liked helping people, but having a terrible boss was the surest way to ruin even a great job (which walmart was not even from the beginning).

I think the Labor Day tradition sounds fantastic. A good time was had by all!!!

I don't think I ever had a terrible summer job....just ones that did not pay much! :(
I worked in the office at a Ford dealership one summer and drove up every day in my Chevrolet. That was fun. I had hoped the owner would make me a really good deal on a new Ford , but he didn't.

Who are the five?

The first summer job I had was the worst. I was hired at a pool supply store. They guy installed pools, did maintenance for customers, and sold supplies. He hired me to work the cashier while he was out of the store.

He literally hired me, showed me how to work the register and then left the store for the entire day. Day after day he left as soon as I arrived and he never gave me any instructions. Customers came in needing the part that fits the thing to the other thing. Customers called asking about what it meant when this light came on, or this noise was being made. Customers called wanting information on which supplies thier pools needed and when the guy would be back to service thier pools.

But more annoying than any of that was the fact that he used the word facetious ALL the time and always incorrectly.

"That was the most facetious job! The pool was so dirty."

"I just ate a facetious lunch."

I found another job that summer, but strangley I do not remember where. I just remember being so happy that I did not have to continue working there.

I did inventory for a home-town hardware store. Counting whosits and whatsits for 5 days straight, not fun.

And Asker, most of the Zmolik family lives in and around Ennis so we see each other pretty often, but my Grandad is from Iowa and his side of the family is pretty spread out. This is the first time we've had a reunion in a location where none of us lives. Our last reunion was at a really nice state park in TN and we decided we liked that so this year it's somewhere in Arkansas, it's a pretty central location for everyone.

2nd Mom, that is one odd job!

TamiJean, I think the horse ranch job sounds better. Sorry to hear about the bad boss!

Mom, that WOULD have been a fantastic perk to a summer job. I'm guessing the five are: me, justin, jeannie moo and fabia.

Anne, UUUGGH! I hate jobs with no training and unrealistic expectations and bosses with poor understanding of vocabulary!

Angel-A, tedium!!
