scissor, frog, doggie, butterfly

Dear QotD?ers,

There was a health fair at work today. I learned that I am terrible at redneck horseshoes, I have low blood pressure, flat feet, a stiff spine and that large dill pickles and candy are acceptable give-aways at a health fair.

For the most part, I think I would like my clone. We could have fun doing all the goofy stuff that Justin isn't interested in, like dancing in the grocery store and watching So You Think You Can Dance. I'm not sure if I would be easy to work with on a professional level. It would depend on what we are working on.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
Do you know how to swim?

Love,
The Asker

I can swim, but I'm not really any good at it. I would love to be able to swim well enough to go to the pool and swim laps, that form of exercise appeals to me. But perhaps it only appeals to me because I know I can't do it.

Here are two things my parents did for me by the age of three:

Made sure I could swim
Had me attend Catholic school

I remember when my dad had me jump off the high dive and swim to him. I was three and it was scary.

How low is your blood pressure? Bob gets infuriated by the fact that my statistics read as if I am a progessional athlete...low blood pressure, low resting heart rate, high HDL levels.

Does a stiff spine mean you are stubborn?

No, I can't. Now the whole world knows.
I did make sure that my kids had swimming lessons and know how to swim, though.
@Anne,
Thank you, thank you! It will be a super fantastic day! :)

Congratulation to you Kathleen on your last day of school! I hope it is a very special day you will always remember!
Yes, I can swim, not well like my kids who were on swim team. I can swim to get from here to there.

Yes, I do.

However, once I was too old to pretend to be a mermaid, the idea of swimming is no longer enjoyable.

If one assumes that the definition of "swimming" is a simple as not dying when tossed in water deeper than one is tall, then yes.

If, however, one assumes that swimming is a graceful, effortless thing that brings to mind porpoises and mermaids...then no.

My swimming is more like watching a hampster take a dustbath. Much flailing and splashing about for not a whole lot of result. =]

Just as much fun, though.

Yes and I love it! I took swimming lessons as well when I was little. I think I could really be a mermaid and spend more time in water than on land. I love the water!

Yes! And now that I'm back in Midlothian there's a pool in my backyard. Nearby QotD-ers, you're welcome to stop by.

@ Jacklyn,

Well, I am disinclined to expose my forty-five year old skin in general, let alone to sunlight! But I would only ever take you up on that offer if you came by and took a spin on, what our neighbor calls, the MiracleGoRound! (Hailey is the best! She poked a whale in the eye once, after her boyfriend took her to Las Vegas!) Fair is fair!

Angel-A, swimming is one of those things that you have to be sorta good at for it to be an effective exercise. at least, that's what I find.

Anne, good parents! Low enough to have alarmed Justin, and his dad is a doctor! while I am stubborn, it just means my back is old for its age.

Mom, redneck horseshoes - they have other names. three horizontal polls and you toss a rope that's weighted at both ends to wrap around the polls.

2nd Mom, Would you believe I frequently tease Justin about swim team?

TamiJean, the image is hilarious!

Amanda, I hope you get many opportunities to swim this sumer!

Sabrina, I didn't know! awesome

Jackie, lucky!

Skittl, I loved your comment. I bet every girl in our age range made every trip to the pool into a mermaid adventure.

Even with my twenty extra pounds, my blood pressure is typically 105/68. I have seen it drop as low as 90/60, but that was back when I was thin.

I had blood pressure issues with all three kids, which is why we were really only supposed to have two. With Jessica, I took meds and only got up from resting to go to doctor's visits, and in that condition my blood pressure would stay at 150/90. If I tried to do anything but rest, my pressure would spike from 150/90, which was generally not a good thing.

I tell people that you can FEEL the high blood pressure, but I think that is only true if you make that rapid and giant leap that I did with pregnancies. But I promise...I can FEEL that change.

Another of those rather ironic sets of conditions with me and children. My body usurped birth control methods in a mad attempt to have children, only to revolt and panick at the prospect of being pregnant. I had many hours on the sofa with Jessica's pregnancy to think through all the ironies.
