A SHRUBBERY!

Dear QotD?ers,

Today was Justin and my 4-year anniversary! The traditional gift is fruit and flowers. This morning we had fruit for breakfast and I got a rose before dinner.

Thank you for all the congratulations we have recieved. Also, thank you for being part of our married life together!

Tonight we watched The AristoCats, a first for both of us, and then two new episodes of 30 Rock.

I've been saying "twenty-ten" like the majority.

Today's Question of the Day? is:

How many unique kinds of bushes/shrubbery are in the front flowerbed of your domicile?

Love,
The Asker

Wow, the rose is awesome!
Front yard bushes? Japanese Yew, English boxwood, nandinas, holly, Mexican heather, hawthornes, yep that is it for shrubs! (We also have other plants that are not considered shrubs)

None. And I can't believe you had never seen The AristoCats!! It's my all-time favorite Disney movie! Annelise had a Marie birthday party, since I love the movie and her middle name happens to be Marie.

Unique bushes?

I counted nine different shrubs and bushes in our front yard, and maybe I can name tham all when I have more coffee. But the most unique one is the Texas Mountain Laurel bush that is being trained as a tree. They are hard to find in nurseries and rather expensive when you do. I looked for a long time for it. It is Jessica's tree. Jake and Nick have big ole live oaks planted for them.

The Mountian Laurel is an everygreen shrub that flowers beautiful purple sprays in the spring that smell like grape koolaid!!! I love that tree/shrub!!

Nothing unique...some hawthornes, nandinas, and crepe myrtles...but I do like nandinas and crepe myrtles.
The rose is beautiful! I love roses but at our present domicile rose bushes have not done well. It has to do with our soil and amount of shade. The prettiest/healthiest rose bushes and roses were in El Paso!

Good Morning Anne! You are up early this morning.
I too like the Texas Mountain Laurel....I love the smell.....my grandmother's house had one by her 'back porch'....and every time I smell one.....I have wonderful memories of my grandmother and good times at my grandmother's house! I must get a Texas Mountain Laurel.

Beautiful photo!

we have lots of greenery in front of our apt building. Only one that I can name, bouganvillea.

Congratulations!

Um- I have no idea. All the landscaping done was done by the previous owners and we don't really upkeep it. The only thing we have added to the front yard is a raspberry plant, but that was on accident because between Saturday when we trimmed it in the backyard and Wednesday when the garbage went out, it took root under our steps.

We also have black eyed susans, lavender (I think), lilies, some shrubs, other stuff...

Also- are you counting wrong or am I? I thought you got married just after me... And we just celebrated 5. At least, that's what we thought it was...

Or was it a year after me? Really? I mean, I guess you'd know when you got married. But I was pretty sure it was right after me, because we wore almost the same dress.

@ Kathleen,

You and I are frequently posting about the same time, so I know you are up early most mornings. It makes me smile to think that you are reading and thinking about the same things as I am most mornings.

I want at least one more for our backyard. The last time I found one, it was priced at about $300, which was way out of my budget for just one bush. The next time I find one, I'll let you know.

Yeah, Asker! Are you sure you know how long you have been married??

We did not attend that wedding, as that is tthe sickest I have ever seen one of my children!! But I do remember that Jessica went with me to FSMS afterwards to show Ms. Svatek the pretty dress she had for the wedding. I remember the dress, but not the year. See what is important??

@ Sabrina,

One of my favorite flowers is a geranium, as our front yard in Venezuela had bouganvillas and geraniums.

Also, the cuica drum is very similar to a drum that the Orinoco Indians use. That is fun!

Anne, how is it that you have heard of a cuica? you sure are in the know.

@ GroovySabrina,

Don't you let the Asker sway you.

I AM in the know!! And even though my little bubblsphere is being the mother of three and I live in a semi-rural community, I am knowledgable and well-versed in things like the political climates of Nigeria, the Philippines, Venezuela and China, the exchange rate of the pound and Euro to the dollar, current scientific research, tractors and farm implements, as well as children's literature and programs like Word Girl!!

Yes, alright, maybe Aggie Engineer gave me the head up on that drum.

Well... I have a bunch of sweet, beautiful roses!

2nd Mom, wow. you have a lot. You'll have to point them out to me next time I'm over because I don't know shrubbery names.

Angel-A, did you create your own Marie decorations?

Anne, 9! !!

Mom, I love your crepe myrtles. the one in the backyard is my favorite.

Sabrina, that sounds like a beautiful shrubbery

Skittl, sounds like my kind of landscaping! So you were trying to get rid of the raspberry plant or the trimmed branches dug in?
Yup, you got married before us. Since we weren't married, we stayed at a friends house in Austin instead of getting a hotel. Justin had to sleep on a couch with some big dogs! ha!

Anne, I REMEMBER that you didn't come to my wedding, the most important day of my life. I was very upset. But I understood that the care of SweetiePie was pretty important too.

Sweetie Pie, roses are always a beautiful way to accent a house!
