Happy New Year! 5/9

Dear QotD?ers,

The most exciting thing about today was the business lunch. It was very casual and I had some fried catfish and Dr. Pepper. This evening Justin and I tried to watch 9, that creepy CGI movie about animated burlap sack dolls. The disk kept messing up, so we didin't actually see all of it, but I wouldn't recommend it anyway.

The farthest I travelled in 2009 was to Durango, CO. It was a great trip and my first ride in a tiny airplane. That tiny airplane made me plenty nervous!

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What was the saddest thing of 2009 for you?

Love,
The Asker

I think the saddest thing was watching my husband's face as he looked at his family's mountain cabin in N.M., that had been abandoned for over 15 years. The weather and heat from a fire in a cabin next door, left it damaged. He had many wonderful family times at the cabin in the mountains and it made him sad to see it in such sad shape.

Moving so far away from our families, thank goodness for Skype and Vonage!

Bob and I attended the funerals of two "parents." Our friend, Sandra, lost her mother to cancer and our friend, Derrick, lost his father to a stroke. There was the realization that we are at the point in our lives where we can expect to go to more funerals than weddings. I actually plotted that out. I can no longer remember the exact figures, but average age of our older generation is a smidge over 71 and the average age of our younger generation is a bit under 10.

Thanks, Kathleen! I enjoyed visiting in your room yesterday. Helping in your room is more fun than going home and doing laundry!! I love your microphone! That is fun!

Coins, Kristen, need to be taken to the bank so that we know how much money is available for spending cash on the trip that Nick and Jake have been promised to them. Mr. Ken says they are going to Ecuador, but Grandma Sue says they will go to Costa Rica. I vote Ecuador for the Galapagos Islands, but that implies that this decision will be reached by a democratic process.

The first thing that came to my mind was having to put a cherished pet...almost 16 years old......to sleep. That was really hard......to make that decision...and then to go thru the process....and then having to tell Kristen. Toottles was 'her pet'!!!
(I'm crying as I am typing)

Other sad events were the funerals
of the spouses of several friends from church.

Jeannie,
where is this mountain cabin? When we lived in El Paso, we would go into New Mexico and have many fond memories of Ruidoso, Cloudcroft area.

Anne,
You are welcome to visit anytime. Yeah, the kids like the microphone. It's fun to go into the hall and then tell them "I'm watching you"! It's my Pre AP class and I can have a lot of fun with them!

By the way, this post is at 7:50 a.m. this morning because we have a 2 hour delay for school this morning. Bitter cold and it will only get colder and there was just enough rain/drizzle to make the bridges all 'icy'.

Stay warm!

2nd Mom, That sort of negelct IS sad.

Angel-A, are you taking pictures of Annelise every day?

Jackie, I didn't know it was both. That's rough.

Anne, I'm sure Sandra and Derrick were glad you were there.
Oh, Coins as in Loose Change.

Mom, I agree with you. Toottles will be my answer.

Sweetie Pie, I agree that changing grades can be sad, especially if you had really good teachers or friends that won't be in your homeroom anymore.
