QotD? to be regulated by the government, more at 10

Dear QotD?ers,

I had the hiccups today. I ate a small piece of chocolate cake and then I didn't have the hiccups anymore! This is my new favorite home remedy.
Justin is taller than me. When we walk the same pace, mathematics proves that he will cover more distance than me. So while Justin is briskly walking down the street, I'm behind him huffing and complaining about my shins. We walked ~5k in 48:52. Wikipedia just told me the medical term is "media tibial stress syndrome."

I have two home-made ren fest costumes and a cape. One maroon and one green w/ a sort-of corset (there's I enjoy wearing them at Ren Fests. I probably still have the pieces for the belly dancer costume if I was feeling very confident. I can't believe I wore that in public and my mother approved (and helped me put it together).

Today's question of the Day? is:
Did you know that the FTC wants to regulate blogs? Would this have any effect on your daily life?

Love,
The Asker
P.S. DISCLOSURE: That chocolate cake was free and I took it from the breakroom.

As usual, it's a good idea in general that will probably end up really hurting the little guy. One of the blogs I read does some reviews and receives freebies and she always lets us know that it's something she received and then usually gives the item away. I worry that the next step will be the IRS going after these people (who include a lot of 'mommy bloggers') to pay taxes on the freebies that they receive much like celebrities now have to do with stuff they receive in swag bags.

However the government would affect Question of the Day would affect me. Otherwise, meh....
BellyDancing? Perhaps it is because I took bellydancing classes and even had a recital????
We had to make our own costumes and had great fun........????

This is somewhat like the package instructions now federally mandated for meat products (and more!), just in case some of us don't know that you should fully cook meats to avoid ingesting harmful bacteria.

These rules seem generally unnecessary to me.

Bob read a statistic a few weeks ago that we both found appalling. I can't find the stats now, but the essence of it was that China produces some large number of engineers each year, while the US produces that same number of lawyers. The number of engineers that we graduate annually is a small fraction (about 3% is what my memory bank tells me) of the number of lawyers we graduate.

Not a fan of big government...not a fan of unnecessary legislation...not a fan of lots of lawyers.

Yes, it would! What would we all do before 7:30AM?

If the FTC tries to get involved, I vote we take QotD? underground. The "Quiggly Orin Resistance and Unification Movement" (QUORUM). Just enough of us are behind you, The Asker!
~aggressive shrug?~

Full Disclosure: No goods or services were rendered to the poster by Quiggly Orin, The Asker, or any entity associated with QotD?.

I'd heard of it, but the link you provided was a good one to get just the facts from (thank you!).

Like most laws of its ilk, I think the regulation has its benefits but could be taken too far.

If I read a book review on a website, it's nice to know that they were paid by the author/publisher/editor to give the review, but I really don't care if they keep the book or money or product or what have you.

If I then try that book and hate it, I'm not going to trust that blogger anymore, because I will assume they gave a good review simply for the money, even though the product was bad.

Most book bloggers I know aren't required to give a good review - rare are the five star reviews, even when they are provided the book in order to give a review.

To me, the positives of the regulation are that it empowers people by giving them the information they need to make a decision.

The negatives would be in the fine print and how it's enforced - if it makes people afraid to blog about a product, then it's gone way, way too far.

I don't think it'll affect my daily life, even though I'm sure it'll affect a number of blogs I read.

The blogs I read (mostly knitting and stamping) they are pretty good about disclosing when they got a freebie.

Some of them, however do get tons so I bet the taxes would add up.

Me- I get nothing, so it would not matter.

I'm confused how they plan to oversee this though

Speaking of going underground....

I thought of Alicia and Amanda a few weeks ago after the anniversary of Hurricane Ike and realized that they have gone missing.

So have Auntie Barb and Jeannie, of late.

Is that a little suspicious?

And I do PLENTY of things before 7:30 am!

@TamiJean...bring on the fauna costume. It's not like I've never gone grocery shopping with a princess, a cowboy, a fireman, someone in a birthday hat, and a space alien.
