No, I can't spell, but you know what I mean

Dear QotD?ers,

I just had a long weekend. I love them. Friday morning I walked ~5k in 47 minutes but I had some terrrible shin splints. Does anyone know a good stretch for that? Also there was movie watching, laundry and vacuuming of dead bugs.
This weekend I learned that another QotD?ers lost a job. Please send good thoughts and prayers their way (and to all people who are finding themselves in crummy or devastating situations).

Montana, huh? That's a really strange question. I have no idea how I came up with it. I've been to Montana once, I think, on our Summer Across America family vacation. I see some brown packing paper that's all crinkled up and sort of looks like mountains. There are mountains in Montana. Connection made.

Today's Question of the Day? is: from Justin
If you are going to a reneaisance festival, will you dress up? as what?

Loooove,
The Asker

I find that most women's renaissance costumes are heavy and make you hot and the rest are short and would not look good on me. Therefore I would just wear regular clothes but dress Annelise up in something adorable.

No I would probably not dress up....if I did, I think a 'wash woman' attire might be appropriate.
HA

Absolutely! I would dress up as Lt. Uhura.

Alternate choice: Professor McGonagall.

For the shin splints, walk on your heels for a while to strengthen your shin muscle. I learned this from Daryl who learned it from Lauren.

I'd dress up in a dress with lots of strings and lace and ruffles. Something voluminous. And I'd wear flowers in my hair. This would be best with long braids.

In a dreamworld, I'd have an entire closet full of costumes, ranging from scandalous heiress, through saucy pirate barmaid, and all the way down through some of the really outlandish costumes involving prosthetic limbs (like a faun or something out of Pan's Labyrinth)

Verily I would, sirrah!

I'll be wearing my Kevin-Sorbo-as-Hercules style pants (that you made!) and the poofy shirt I bought from Heather. Pics next week!

When I used to dance we'd stretch out shin splints by putting our ball of our foot on top of a text book, and our heel on the ground and lean back into a stretch.

Renaissance festival-I made a great wool cotehardie in college. It was 100% wool with a linen lining, long sleeves, tons of gores so it was HEAVY and seemed like it would be really hot, but I managed to wear it in the Texas summer and not die. Assuming I could still fit into it (doubtful for a fitted dress) I'd wear it. It was so pretty.

Though I suppose if I had mad sewing skills I'd want a gorgeous corseted dress, period accurate or not!

@ Kathleen,

I think I have your wash women outfit here. I'd love for you to take it away from me!!

@ TamiJean,

There must be no end to your geekiness!! Years ago, I had a friend that was WAY into the Renaissance festivals. He and his wife DID have a closet full of outfits and I happened to be at their apt. one afternoon when they were trying to put outfits together for an event. Have to confess that I was a bit... well, I surely rolled my eyes at the whole thing. It was a level of geekiness that had a threshold that I could not pass. Carlos did introduce me to Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in comic book form and THAT geekiness I loved.

I might roll my eyes at your closet full of customes, but I love the geekiness that you encompass!!

The Texas A&M Historical Society is going to Ren Fest in November and we're having two costume making parties to prepare for it. All of the guys are going to be warriors of some sort and for the girls we have a peasant, a princess, and a gypsy. I am unsure what I want to be ... Maybe I'll steal some QotDer's ansers?

@Anne

*grins* You say that now, but if I had a faun costume, I'd totally find an excuse to wear it to the mall.

Or to dinner parties.

Or possibly grocery shopping.

Angel-A, I bet Annelise would be ADORABLE!

Anne, nice choices.

Sabrina, I'll try that, thank you. Your dress sounds super fancy and fun!

TamiJean, I can see you in all of those costume ideas. SAUCY!

Husband, those pants are so awesome. And to think we tried to kill you with brass poisoning...

Jessi, I can't figure out how that stretch works. The cotehardie sounds amazing.

Jackie, have fun at the 'garb' parties!
