ITCH

Dear QotD?ers,

Today I did my evening walk and my shins felt terrible. But I was listning to 80's music, so that made it a little better.
I've put up all of our Halloween decorations, though I thought we had a plastic jack-o-lantern that plugged in, but I don't know where it might be. So I've got cardboard cut-outs of scary things, just like when I grew up! And 2 strings of jack-o-lantern christmas lights.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What is worse, mosquito bites or fire ant bites?

Love,
The Asker

Both are bad to get and if you don't scratch them, they do heal
quicker. I would have to say that fire ant bites are worse....for me.

I would say fire ants because there are usually more of them in our area and you get bit several times at once, where only one mosquito gets you.

I am sure that this answer depends on what your experience has been.

For me, and I am deeply jealous of Auntie Barb, mosquitoes are the worst. It is NEVER just one mosquito bite. Plus, mosquiotes hunt you down and buzz in your ear when you want to sleep.

I remember when we lived in Venezuela I slept with those rings of fire that are mosquito repellants in my room and had a net over my bed AND STILL the mosquitoes came.

Fire ants do not seek you out like that. You have to find them.

Which brings me to my brother's experieince in Venezuela, where the fire ant mounds were immense and Steve had already started his life-long goal of proving to everyone that he didn't need to be told what to do. My dad clearly told us to stay far away from the ant hills. So Steve went and climbed to the top of one and then started to scream. By the time he got off the hill, still screaming, the ants were all the way up to his armpits. OUCH!! I'll bet he votes for fire ants on this!!

One time, during a fire drill, I found out I was standing on a fire ant mound when about 50 of them bit ALL AT ONCE. Like some sort of coordinated attack. By then they were everywhere. That was worse than any mosquito swarm I've ever been in.

Fire ants! Fire ants will swarm you without you knowing about it, then they all bite you at once.

Mosquitoes are FAR more irritating (they've been deployed by air!) but fire ants are worse.

You know, up here in Wisconsin they don't even HAVE fire ants? While house hunting, I pointed out a rather spectacular ant mound in a front yard and our agent was somewhat surprised that we seemed concerned about it.

Fire ants...an alkaloid venom.

Mosquitoes...malaria, dengue fever, yellow fever, encephalitis, west nile virus

Fire ants. I'm allergic to ants and they swell really badly and take days to go away. I hardly ever get bit by misquotes, but when I do they only itch for a few minutes and then go away.

I'm sure Matthew would vote for mosquitos though.

Dear The Asker,
Besides super heroes, mosquitos are my arch nemisis. Bah! Curse them for forever and eternity! They are like taking a tiny grain of sand, giving it that capacity to scream the most annoying, high picthed noise in all of the universe, and making it invicible, and almost impossible to see. Also you will find that one mosquito bite never feels like just one, it feels like you have a million tiny bites all around the affected area, and mosquitos dont attack just once. Ohh no they will bite you over and over and over until it drives you insane! Sometimes I have to wonder what God was thinking when he said, "Oh, What if I made a Mosquito!?!" On a lighter note, I did see a Monty Python sketch on how to hunt and kill a mosquito. I practice everyday now.
Sincerly,
Dr. Fandango, Hater of mosquitos
