I grew up on whole milk and have forever made fun of skim milk as "water and milk." This week we are trying a move to 2%. It's perfectly fine in cereal. and I don't mind drinking it straight either. I'm a little surprised by that, being a full-fatted milk girl. But then I looked and saw that 2% only has 3g less fat than a serving of whole. I'd calculate the %fat of whole milk, but I'm not interested in looking up the densities of 2% and whole milk.
.
Good news: I'm getting out of the funky mood I collected yesterday afternoon. But I'm hungry, so maybe I'll have some milk.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
What forms of public transportation have you used, and where?

Busses in Houston. Smelly, noisy, crowded, dirty, and sloooow.
Trains in Japan - clean, fast, not crowded.
Subways in Japan - clean, fast, very crowded.
Shinkansen in Japan - Like having a first class ticket on an airplane, ear-popping included every time we went under a bridge.
School busses in Wisconsin, Arkansas, and Texas - the only game in town.
School buses in Venezuela and Texas.
In Chicago, the subway, the El, city buses and commuter trains.
In college, school buses and at least twice a Greyhound bus home.
In New York, the subway and city buses.
Airplanes. They are the worst.
A cruise ship.

School busses growing up, and around A&M campus, taxis in Spain, subway in D.C., a cruise ship(?), ferries across to Bolivar peninsula. Do airplanes count? There are a lot of options out there to move people!
Right now our main method of transport is the work vanpool. It's economical and ecological, but not very convenient or comfortable. But I do get to watch Star Treks!
Anyone else think it's weird that humans are the only mammals that drink milk past infancy? Especially since it's milk of another species, designed to pack on ~40% full-grown weight after the first 6 months!?
Is that wise?
Aggie Engineer,
Wise? Is sucking the blood from other animals wise? Is living off flower nectar wise? Is eating raw meat off road kill wise?
The weird part is not drinking milk past infancy. It is that despite being what is considered the most evolved species, the length of dependency on parents is ridiculously out of proportion to any other species.
subways, buses of all sorts, ferries, light-rails, airplanes, trains, moving walkways at airports, taxis. I even arranged a carpool once with a total stranger on the internet in California. Worked out surprisingly well.
Since I've never had a car, public transit is my only transit. Some options are more pleasant than others, but in general, yes on smelly, noisy, crowded, dirty, and slow.
The Midlothian School bus a few times in middle school, and the buses here in College Station quite often.
Trains in Scotland, Ireland, and Great Britain. Subways in London, New York, and DC.
Oh, and Matthew and I took the Dart train in downtown Dallas to go to the Circus.
I love public transportation. I wished it was more accessible here in the states.
Jacklyn,
I will start my second child in Midlothian middle school next year...Frank Seale Middle School, which would have been the only middle school when you went through. I know because my oldest started sixth grade there when the new middle school opened.
If it has been mentioned that you went to Midlothian schools before, I did not pay attention. I just know you were really cute shoes, mostly from Target!!
Yep. I graduated from Midlothian High School in '06, and back when I went to middle school there was only one and it was just called Midlothian Middle School. It's a really great school, and I hope your kids love it. I'll be back in Midlothian next week for spring break and I am really excited to be home.
Oh, maybe your children will have Mrs. Svatek!
