Yeah, there are some things that I didn't get done today. The tree and nativity still aren't up. And there were some gifts I was hoping to find today that continue to elude me. Also, Walmart is aweful and terrible and aweful. Today marked the first trip to walmart in at least three months, and guess what: MY GIFT CARDS DID NOT WORK. who's surprised? not me, actually. Yeaarrrgh
If i'm going out into public, I'll probably wear jeans. for not work, likely a t-shirt. for work, i pick one of the shirts or sweaters that's in the next group of rotation.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
If you were charged with renaming one of the existing 50 states, which would you chose, what would the new name be, and why?
Loooove,

I would rename states that have silent letters, like Wyoming and Arkansas. I would let them keep the same pronounciation and just change the spelling.
I will have to ponder this, as there are many possibilities. I could choose to rename states that are impossible to spell or I am thinking about picking on the most populated states to rename because that would just be more fun than picking on a small state with only five people living in it anyway.
My last WalMart experience made me swear off that store forever. I am not saving money in a store that makes me that upset, angry and frustrated. I live in America. I can be poor and still have an excellent quality of life here, so the only purpose WalMart now serves for me is to be an eysore and take up space. It is not improving my quality of life for dang sure!!
I would rename states that don't have their own identity..like North Dakota, North Carolina. They deserve to have their own name. North Carolina has such awesome scenery...I will have to give it an awesome name. Hmmmm.
That is an interesting question.
Before I read any answers I was thinking about New Mexico. They deserve their own name. Not part of Mexico... so not New Mexico, but I do not have a replacement name.
I then read the answers and I agree with Jeannie.....just have one Dakota, one Carolina, one Virginia. The new names would deserve much thought....either after an Indian tribe, or an Indian word to describe the landscape or the people.
On the Walmart note, Bah Humbug on Walmart. I try NOT to go to Walmart, but sometimes I do just out of convenience. It is the closest store to me.
Who is giving you these 'non-working' gift cards to Walmart? Perhaps they have not been scanned. Tell them! (Is it work?) Go get'em Kristen!
I don't know what I'd change the name TO, but I would change one of the poor states that has to share. "New" Or "North" or "South". Poor states, can't even have their own name!
I've been to walmart maybe three times in the last eight years.
Growing up, it was a commerce mecca, clean and wondrous (I lived in nowheresville, Texas. We didn't even have a dollar store)
I think because it was the ONLY store, it was pretty clean. It's all the walmarts in really big cities that have been a huge disappointment - it's not just the store, it's the way people TREAT the store. I've never seen such blatant and horrible disregard for a store in my life. I've seen people spit on the carpet, throw diapers under coatracks, kids toss an entire aisle of glassware to the ground...
It's not just walmart, it's the way people treat walmart.
/soapbox
I decree that henceforth the following name changes shall be in effect:
· Idaho shall be renamed to Udaman (U-dah'man; much less self-denigrating)
· Mississippi shall be renamed to Second (correctly pronounced exactly 1000ms long)
· Delaware shall be renamed to FIRST!!1!LOL
ugh. Walmart. We have not escaped the tendrils of Walmart, even here. Walmart owns our grocery store chain, called Bom Preço (Good Price). Just a step into Bom Preço and I can feel my blood pressure rising. Too bad there are few other viable options.
I'd change Rhode Island to something a little less misleading.
Angel-A, I love your reasoning. Illinois in particular.
Anne, you have plenty of time to ponder the best renaming decision. I do like how you would mess with the most populated states.
2nd Mom, It doesn't seem fair that Virginia gets to be whole, while W. Virginia and the Dakotas and Carolinas have to share
Mom, Work is giving me these cards! and no one else seems to have a problem with them! grrrr.
TamiJean, good point on the treatment of Walmart. It's horrible to try to find a CD because they are always disorganized. I was finding Led Zepplin in the christmas CDs. WHAT?! WHO DOES THAT?
Justin, I love your renames. sound logic for all.
Sabrina, good call on Rhode Island.
Many of my issues with WalMart are the result of the people who shop there. My brother tells me it is because I am a social snob. I consider it having standards of dress, behavior, parenting, thoughtfulness and respect, but if you want to call it snobbery, I am okay with that.
California: Costingtons
New York: PlasticOnoLand
I must leave to laugh now. Plastic Ono Land cracked me up!
Jessica wants to join QoTD. She has been asking for a week or so, which makes my prediction wrong.
I had fun math day!! Thanks Kathleen!!
Dear The Asker,
Three things:
1) I despise walmart too. Hopwever, I always go to www.peopleofwalmart.com that usually makes me feel better as a person.
2) Not Yeaarrrgh; Arrrggg! With a hook and an eye patch.
3) I would rename all the states, beacause really? who wants states with names like: Zimbabwe, Poland, or Gambia? Also, I would name one Dr. Fandopolis.
Sincerely,
Dr. Fandango, Namer of Places
I agree with Kathleen. New Mexico should be changed. I think New Mexico should be changed to New Antartica! Completely the opposite of New Mexico's landscape. Either New Antartica or a very long name that takes up a whole map! Finally Californa should be Tomcruiseland! Everyone knowsTom Cruise will soon rule Hollywood and then Californa...And I will be there to stop him!!!
Sincerley,
Mr. SuperHappySunshineSmiles
Anne, PlasticOnoLand? that is awesome.
We would welcome Jessica at QotD?
Dr. Fandango, that is a hilarious web site. I was feeling more frankenstein's monster than pirate yesterday. I don't know, Zimbabwe is really fun to say.
Mr. SuperHappySunshineSmiles, nice choices. Tomcruiseland scares me!
