A happy Friday to you! Last night I finally took down and put away the Christmas decorations. Thankfully, my closet had room for all of it without becoming a jumbled mess again. This weekend I really need to work on a few projects. Projects never end, do they?

Is y'all part of your everyday (or special occasion) vocabulary?

Despite being Texan, I never say y'all. If I need to address plural yous I'll use "you all." Justin has noticed that I use "yet" a lot more when I'm with my family.

I use it a lot, actually. Even though I don't have a strong accent, I still have some of the 'isms' and I can't think of a more natural way to indicate a larger group of people than y'all.

I say you guys or sometimes just guys. I rarely use y'all because I still refuse to believe that I might be a Texan.
It killed me to have to say Howdy at A&M. I once had a cadet stop me and give me the riot act for saying Hey instead of Howdy. No allowing for personal preferences when it is a tradition. HAD to be Howdy every time.

Of course I saw y'all! I'm from Texas dangit! Sometimes I using it even when I'm typing and I can't even find the acceptable replacement words, like TamiJean said. It's crazy.
I use it a lot. Mostly in "what are yall doing" or something like that. I've also found myself saying 'innit' lately as in "that's pretty cool innit" (isn't it)
Sadly, yes, I find myself using "y'all" in the place of "you all" quite often.
Although, I'm also guilty of "usta-could" as in "Yes, I used to could" which isn't even proper English in the first place ...
Yup. Just like fixin to and gonna. I also say nowadays, which Kristen thinks is odd.
I think I hear your family use yet like I would use still (e.g "Dinner is in the oven yet".)
I usually use y'all when I talk with people who use it, especially when asking for favors. Otherwise, I'm not bothered by the ambiguity in the plural "you."
I've heard Justin use words like kin and ain't alongside SAT words like clandestine and munificence.
That 'yet' thing is weird to me. I like Jackie's usta-could, hehe
I would LOVE to hear someone use ain't and munificence in the same sentence.
I am also intrigued by usta coulda. As in, I usta coulda remember people's phone numbers?? Would that be right?
I use "meant to" when many people would used "supposed to." As in, he was meant to take that to the accountant last week.
Ya'll is definitely part of my special occasion vocabulary. I find it an extremely useful word. English needs a proper plural for you!
However, having lived outside of Texas for 10 years now (!!), I don't enjoy the funny looks and subsequent stereotyping received after using it.
and just for Anne: Christmas ain't the only time we oughtta show our munificence.
Well, coming from East Texas, where I do believe "yall" was invented, I say it all the time and with a definite slow inflection to make it sound just right. Now, because of my mother, "Where are you AT" is a definite NO NO in our house and with all our family. I cringe when anyone says it and immediately look to see if Nana is looking down from heaven and shaking her finger! But if any of "y'all" speak proper English. it would make you cringe as well.

Usta Could, Ya'll and "fin to" are in my vocabulary..."fin to" is the slang for "fixin to" that we developed in my family growing up, although I'm sure others use it to. As in "Go clean up your room!"..."I'm FIN to, just a minute!"
I say y'all quite a bit, but not nearly as much as I used to. I also say "all y'all, yet despite what lots of northerners like to tell you y'all is not singular and all y'all the plural, y'all is plural, and all y'all is more plural.
After moving here I would jokingly say pop- because I think it's funny, and at least twice now I've noticed that I said it without irony. EEK. The word is coke, maybe soda. NOT pop!

I cracked up at Skittl1321's "y'all is plural, and all y'all is more plural." So true! Who would have thought of the need of a more plural pronoun? Texans would have.
