it goes good with sauce

Dear QotD?ers,

Today was a day of big purchases. We bought a big, flat tv and a grill. Being frugal engineers has put us into a very good savings-heavy financial status. We are very blessed to be in this situation. But it's still overwhelming and amazing to make big purchases. We have a real big TV and you can come over to watch it sometime!

I really don't mind the birthday singing at restaurants. I usually sing and clap along when someone across the room is getting serenaded. I will gladly endure apathetic singing for free dessert. But restaurants that make the birthday person stand up or wear a dumb hat or something else utterly embarrassing, I'm against that.

Today's Question of the Day? is:
What are your favorite foods to eat at a bbq cookout?

Love,
The Asker

Brownies, there are always brownies at cookouts. And fresh fruit. And chips that I don't allow myself to bring into my home because I'll eat the whole bag in a day.

Putting a home together is a gut-wrenchingly expensive adventure! And as soon as you think you are done spending money, you find that there is a repair or project that needs to be addressed, and there you are again. (Hey, Bob the rubber splash guard on the shower door is worn yout. We should be a new door. Well, if we are replacing the door, why don't we go a head and look at a new shower so that I can have a bit more space in the shower. Well, and the floors need to be redone if we are going to to do that. Well, and my mirror has some defects on it....all of a sudden we are looking at about 10K for a shower door!!!)

I actually enjoy the cole slaw and corn on the cob, especially if the corn was grilled. Not so big on the meats, but there is nothing that compares with a nicely grilled steak.

Brownies at a cookout???

Well, I must assume that Minears is not speaking about the little girls with the uniforms that make adorable crafts, but I have never seen a baked good by that name at a cookout either!!

It is clearly more than the expatriot experience that separates Minears and me.

I've had peach cobblers at cookouts. Are people hiding the brownies from me??

I definitely love the ribs, glazed to perfection. Corn on the cob, grilled. And sometimes, grilled fruit is a nice touch. I have done the whole grilled pizza crust and then add the toppings and that is good.

Yay, must be fun to fill up your house!

I am not a hot dog lover, but every once in a while, at a summer cookout, with the right breeze and the perfect sunshine....It just feels right to eat a juicy hot dog with mustard and ketchup. A good hamburger also.

I also like "spiedies" which I discovered in Upstate New York.

I like watermelon. If there are brownies, I will eat them, too! MM, cobblers, too. Daryl says I am not a very good Texan since I don't gobble up the coleslaws, potato salads, or baked beans...

I would also like to come to Kathleen's cookout! How did I forget homemade ice cream??

And will Martin make the yummy jalepenos??

I forgot about them!

Potato salad. I don't really like barbeque, so I like the "hot dog" style bbqs, what I insist on calling a cook-out, or grilling-out, since people here never have barbeque and a barbeque.

And one of my favorite potato salads ever- the asker made it!

And I agree with the minears- brownies and fresh fruit are yummy. I always have baked goods when we have people over for cook outs.

MM, corn on the cob IS good.

Anne, Yes, people are hiding the brownies from you. Please look in the direction of your tallest son. I bet Jacob has been eating them all.

spiedies? I must look this up. Hmm, i bet that would be tastey.

We have a jalapeƱo holder thing, maybe we should put them on the menu for Saturday.

Jessi, when did you eat my (aka my mom's recipe) potato salad? I can't remember when I would have made it in college.

I think someone graduated early? (Was that Brenda?) And we had a pot-luck at the Erin/Annan/? (was that you?) apartment.

I don't remember anything but the potato salad. It was SO good.

SWEET! memorable potato salad!
Annan & Erin's roommate was Christi, but Heather and I were in the same complex.
