Food Shopping: 3/?

Dear QotD?ers,
.
You know what is not cool? Finding an earwhig bug on your toothpaste. This is unacceptable. I poured peroxide over my toothbrush (because who knows what has been crawling on it!) and my toothbrush is now living in a space capsule.
.
And to wash away that terrible thought from your mind, here is me doing a cartwheel in our front yard! weeeee!
We are curently shopping at the HEBstore exclusively. But there is a Kroger opening soon and it will be much closer and on the way home from the vanpool. I've told Justin that we'll get walkie talkies and do real-time comparison shopping some day.
.
Today's Question of the Day? is:
.
Do you impulse buy?
.
Love,
The Asker

Nope, not at all. I'm actually very frugal with money. I tend not to buy things I do not absolutely need and make lists for going to the grocery store so I don’t buy things I don’t need. My new roommate is the opposite. She went out and bought a bunch of video games today for Wii so we can "see what we like". Heh, we'll see how this works.

Also, I've been in the process of moving and in between being packing and moving and having no internet and then having finals, I have abandoned QotD. It’s good to be back!

About two years ago, I started bringing just cash to the grocery store. I never was one for impulse buying, but having only cash really keeps you within your limits.

I do have a list, but there is some flexibility. Pricing and quality can make me vary the list to better suit my needs.

Oh boy. I try not to, but I do. Often, I try to evaluate what "impulse" purchase means to determine if I should buy or not. Is it just buying something not on your list? Can someone properly define this?

I impusle buy somethings but not a ton. For groceries I try to know what I need and get just that and maybe 1 or 2 extra things.

For "stuff" I like to plan my purchases. Doesn't mean I spend responsibly, just that i give a bit of thought to it first )

Not usually. I pretty much stay with items on my list. I am more likely to impulse buy when I'm having company.

Not an impulse buy...
"Honey, we just ran out of laundry detergent."

Impulse buy...
"That's a yummy looking bag of cookies."

Not an impulse buy...
"Oh, I forgot to put paper towles on the list."

Impulse buy...
"Three Fresh Linen candles for the price of two? I need six to fill my home."

And Groovy Sabrina, I know these are not proper dictionary definitions. Were you here, Jessica would pump you up to get out the dictionary and look up the definitions! Nothing like a seven year old yelling at you:

"Come on, Team! We can do it! Let's find those words! Who's with me?? ARGGGGG!"

I don't know how that became part of my world yesterday, but I was hugely entertained by it!!!

Wow...six comments before 7:30am! I do impulse buy, but I put limits on it. I am an imterested shopper and often pick up items, new to the market, to try them out due to curosity. I always shop with a list and some coupons.
Kristen, sorry you are still having bug problems. Great cartwheel.

I do impulse buy, for sure, but only rarely is it junk food. I impulse buy a lot more when I hit a special store, like Trader Joe's. Last time I went, I picked up some chicken cilantro mini potstickers, some tomato basil turkey burgers, a little thing of sushi, and a new bag of mixed nuts for the hubby.

All of them turned out to be winners. =]

I also impulse-bought my now-favorite kind of yogurt - Fage yogurt with honey. YUM.

I also impulse-buy at Penzey's Spices - my spice rack overfloweth, but I never get tired of eggs! (I am notorious for grabbing random spices to add to my eggs. Ginger powder eggs served on a whole wheat english muffin, or jamaican jerk in ANYTHING are my favorites!)
