Hey! That's me! This is the snippet that made it to our company intranet. There's a webpage that gets updated whenever anyone in the company has a major job move. That picture was taken on Tuesday. Tuesday also happens to be the last day I remember seeing my wallet. I've already searched the house, twice, and it's hot pink, so I'm hoping I'll find it in one of 4 locations at work tomorrow.

Hmm, Justin didn't answer. so I'll answer for both of us. We shop Sunday evenings. It's not crowded at all. The only drawback is that it's Sunday, the day before we have to go to work, and we are doing something productive instead of lazy.

Somehow I've missed out on several days' worth of posts, so I'm going answer a bunch of questions all at once.
The 9-day market is a farmer's market that only takes place on days that end in 9, the 9th, 19th, and 29th of every month.
I am big on impulse buying, although I'm trying to reign in those impulses. If I did less shopping, we could pay off bills sooner and have more saved for the house and car we'd like to buy when we get back to the States.
I live in Japan, there are strange products around every corner. I am most amazed by the large selection of tofu in the Japanese grocery stores. And by the cost of 'high quality' fruits, up to $30 for 4 of the best peaches or a box of amazing grapes.
We go grocery shopping on Sundays after Mass, plus I sometimes hit up the Tuesday 100-yen sale at Yokomachi.
I will never buy tofu, it freaks me out.

9-day Market sounds fun! I would love to see what a Jaapanese farmer's market is like. My daughter loves to have miso soup for breakfast with extra seaweed!!

I am not a chicken when it comes to food, so am not sure there is any food item that I would be unwilling to get. However, I hardly ever buy forzen food (excepting ice cream and frozen juice concentrates), so I don't see me really looking at the package of frozen enchiladas and thinking I must buy that!!
I'm not sure if there is anything I won't buy (at the grcoery store that I would buy elsewhere). I used to really like HEB sushi (authentically prepared by a Hispanic guy) but Hyvee sushi is disgusting, their Chinese food is really good.
Other things, like lamb or veal I wouldn't buy anywhere, not just the grocery store, so they don't really count.
I won't buy the clothes they sell. Who buys a t-shirt at the grocery store?

I am on a new mission to buy as few processed foods as possible. This is a big deal since in college my main source of nutrition was packets of instant Lipton & ramen noodles. My pantry was full of them.
Things I hope to never buy again: Lipton noodles. Ramen noodles. Instant mac&cheese. Hamburger helper. Anything to which "adding water" creates a meal.
*laughs* There are a great many food items I wouldn't buy at a grocery store, but none that I would then buy somewhere else. Any meat that "looks like it is" for example, is totally not gonna happen. Even thinking about explaining that in more depth squicks me out, so I'm gonna leave it at that.

Having been to Japan as an exchange student I will wholeheartedly second your "there are strange products around every corner"! My eyes were big as dinner plates when we went to the grocery store. Also, I know soy sauce is very cool, but it should not be used to flavor cookies. Ever. Unless they are clearly marked, and don't look like a sugar cookie.
Chicken feet. I have seen them in the meat section. I would never buy them anywhere. Period.
I really don't see the appeal of sushi, so I would not purchase sushi at the store. When we lived in England, during the holiday season they would hang freshly killed rabbits, pheasants, goose, and turkeys in the Oxford market. It was so cold, the temp. was not a problem. It just looked gross! Never purchased.
Angela, please count the number of different tofus next time you are at the store.

Jessi, I once bought a giant green stuffed frog. Well, Mom bought it for me. That was both an impulse buy and a strange thing. But Freddy Muggins is now a member of our home.
Sabrina, non-instant foods is a great plan. Do they even have that stuff in Brasil?
TamiJean, I have no idea what you mean by 'looks like it is' meat. Like, "we are not sure what animal this came from, but we'll still sell it to you. It looks like it is _turkey_."?

Other Mom, yeah, dressed but unpackaged meat would weird me out too.

By "is what it looks like" I mean any meat that you immediately and very obviously know what part of which critter it is. Heads, intestines, feet - rabbits that still look like rabbits, whole fish, squids, etc.
