Dear QotD?ers,
.
Happy February to you! I think today [Monday] is also Groundhogs day!
I had a good weekend and was able to see my friends Jennifer and Annan, and then my parents, older brother's family and some cousins at a baby shower.
.
For the last hour or so I've been watching the SuperBowl at 6x normal speed, complete with audio. It's a hilarious, Chipmunk version, of the superbowl.
.
Today's Questions of the Day? are:
.
Did you watch any of the SuperBowl yesterday?
.
Do you see your shadow today?
.
Love,
The Asker

Yes, we watched most of the superbowl. The commercials were disappointing. Comments?
Since it is 5:17 a.m..........no I have not seen my shadow. I bet I will see it later today though.
Word verification "ophatso"
My family did not even know who was playing in the Superbowl. Nick, Jake and Bob played music and Jessica and I read last night. My early morning news programs tell me the Steelers won...now if I can just find out who lost so that people won't think I am an alien.
It is too early this morning to know if I have a shadow, but I do know it is meant to be a very sunny day out. Does the shadow thing even apply to Texas, where there is no winter anyway??
Check on the shadow.
Negatory on the superbowl.
Today is a festival celebrating the goddess of the ocean. Her name is Yemanjá. People dress in white, take flowers to the ocean and pray at her shrine.
Nope on the superbowl (I get all the good stuff from your LJ commentary anyway), and no shadow yet - Wisconsin winters are much darker than Texas winters. We don't see the sun until late, and it's typically gone between 4 and 5 in the afternoon. Supposed to be clear and sunny though, so it looks like Puxatony Phil may predict more bad weather.
I think I saw it briefly a few times, but other than that there was no watching on my part. I did like when you called me over to watch particularily inspiring commercials.
As a mammal of the nonhibernatorial variety, the visibility of my shadow is meteorologically irrelevant.
Aggie Engineer,
So some shadows are meterologically revelant, or is that just a self-esteem issue?
Groovy Sabrina,
Okay, I have been doing some "research" into the whole carbon exchange thing. Wow! There are companies dedicated to this! And there is a 1.3 billion dollar budget for the government to reaseach all this. (compared to the 29 billion dollar budget for the whole of NIH, including AIDS and diabetes research) The esoteric language of all govenrment driven things confuses me somewhat, but I truly am intrigued now! So how do you fit into the whole thing? Are you research oriented, or are you on the more business side of all this?
Hey, Kathleen, good to know that I was wake and working with other pretty, smart and funny lovers of math this morning!!
RE: Mother of Three, Anne
That was a reference to Punxsutawney Phil's shadow being a heuristic indicator of a prolonged winter.
I saw my shadow at seven this morning ... which is early in college years ...
As for the superbowl, well, I went to a superbowl party yesterday. While there I watched the first quarter and the last five minutes of the game. For the remainder of the superbowl, however, I was playing Guitar Hero World Tour, eating Cheesecake, and asking if The Office was on yet.
Oh, here's a question for you, The Asker.
There was a debate over whether cheesecake is a cake a or a pie. Any ideas?
Aggie Engineer,
The implication, then, is that some shadows are meterologically revelant.
Okay...do they use the same groundhog every year, or can it be any furry, sleeping mammal they find in the ground on Feb. 2nd?
Jackie, My family has had this discussion and they all vote for pie. However, I think the texture is much more cakey than pie-ish.
I watched 15 minutes of the Super Bowl and yes I did indeed see my shadow! However, I would love to see a statistic on how many times the Groundhog is wrong with his predictions. I really don't want 6 more weeks of winter!
Hi Mother of Three, Anne,
I work on the business side, developing forestry projects.
Groovy Sabrina,
I know I come across as snide quite often, so excuse my propensity for sardonic commentary.
Forestry projects are on the "business" side? Maybe I am tripped up by the idea of business as a means to generate a profit.
Regardless, the more important point being the goal of forestry projects.
For well over twenty years, I have abhored the highways and especially the parking lots that are created so that we may all have the comfort and convenience of automobiles. I cannot deny that a large part of my life revolves around driving, but I soo wish there were more options available to move us in our lives besides autos! Yuck!
And while I may question some of the "science" that is put forth in the name of global warming, I very much support the idea of cleaning up our air, planting more trees and flowers, and growing fresh vegetables!
I would love to hear what forestry projects you work on, and how you feel about Brasilian policies over the years that have affected the forests there.
I spent my youth in Venezuela. While I never saw the rain forest as far south as Brasil, the forest in Venezuela is beautiful! Venezuela has not disrupted their forests much, as their income is in oil and they have had no need to consume the natural resource of the forest.
