We have a new Guest Asker today! It's everyone's favorite villian, Dr. Fandango!

Yesterday I had some free time during my teaching job under the alias of "Mr. Smith" to go into the cafeteria. I sat down and collaborated with some of my coworkers and mostly talked about funny looking students behind their back (as we know all teachers do). Eventually dementia set in and some of them got up to go to the store. I asked very nicely and specifically if they would get me a single banana nut muffin and some regular, sweetened iced tea. They agreed and I gave them an undisclosed amount of money for this NOT TOO HARD TO FOLLOW TRANSACTION.
After another 20 minutes of poking of fun at students; they returned from a store 2 minutes down the street with a package of twenty blueberry muffins and a large container of lemon tea! I was slightly perturbed by this. Needless to say they were both executed immediately. I only had five minutes till class so I ate all twenty muffins and had an upset stomach for the rest of the day.
So my question to you fellow question answerers is, What is the most disappointing gift that you have ever received?
Sincerely,
Dr. Fandango, Wonderer of why teachers with rules can't
follow rules from teachers

Asking A La Anne
My weekend was full of suffering.
"I know what our problem is. You have kitchenhiemers. You go into the kitchen and completely forget why you are there and what the kitchen is for."
"Pi is an irrational number. It just goes on and on without ever making sense. Pi is a woman."
I am still deluged with paperwork from the schools. With all the technology available to us, I am astounded that the schools have not found a better way to keep records. And I cannot express how much I bristle at the paperwork that asks me what language we speak, if we are migratory workers, if we are suffering financial hardships. All these ridiculous government standards that are sure to save us all, and there are still kids who do not have their needs met....because there is no time to give them the support they need to learn when everyone is so busy filling out forms.
I am all for meeting Jackie at Brookshire's!!
I have found a new cartoon that I love. Adventure Time! It is hilarious.
If you wanted to describe yourself as a formula, what formula would you be?

Asking A La Anne
In the quest for the new clarinet, we spent several weekends accompanying my mom and dad on their weekly trip into Dallas. They go to Central Market, Goody Goody's and Whole Foods every Saturday. One weekend we went to the Asian market as well, after we ate at the Chinese restaurant where they serve dim sum. It has been very fun.
Central Market shopping is very different from my standard jaunt to Brookshire's to see all my best friends. Mostly because it is shopping mayhem. People stop anywhere, blocking aisles, cut across your path, bump into you and proceed as if they are the only people in the store. No one says excuse me, and if you offer that statement, no one responds. Sheeesh! I never!
Central Market also has all sorts of sample stands, which add to the problem, but certainly make shopping more interesting. However, we have learned that they will not allow children to sample the coffee. This was okay with my kids last week, as Central Market celebrated Hatch Chile Festival and ALL their samples included hatch chilies, even the coffee.
Not allowing kids to sample coffee seems crazy to me. I am sure they would not think twice about allowing children to try soda samples. I don't understand the whole "coffee is evil and not for children" mentality. I have always seen this as a Southern thing.
Another Southern habit that I have never adjusted to is allowing children to call adults by their first name. I have this itch to correct those few children that want to call me Miss Anne by telling them my name is Miss Anthrope.
By what name are you most comfortable with children using?

Asking A La Anne
This week marked the beginning of school for an 11th, 7th and 3rd grader in our home. It was all fun and good until the 7th grader revealed the team he was on this year.
His school has a theme every year and they name the teams of teachers and students in accordance. This year the theme is Rock and Roll. The middle schooler is on Team ABBA. The other teams are Team Aerosmith and Team Monkeys.
Now, really? Team ABBA??? And in middle school?? They should have just gone with Team Queen, because their music was better. The high schooler and I decided to keep things fair the seventh grade should have Team Queen, Team ABBA and Team Elton.
And how does Team ABBA compare with Team Aerosmith? That is just mean.
And Team Monkeys?? Are we really gonna count them as a rock band??
Okay, that is a lot of questions and you're probably wondering if I got confused on the concept. But here is the only question participants need to answer:
If you were in charge of naming the seventh grade Rock and Roll teams, what band would you choose?

ducks and suspense.
Dear QotD?ers,
Man I have weird dreams. Last night there was mud boggin' out behind the old farmstead. There's always been a tiny creek back there, but in my dream it was a huge river. There was this crazy lever/ramp that all the atvs and SUVs drove on, hauling their boat (by chain), and if they got enough momentum it would swing them from the river bank to the dock. This was pretty entertaining. A four-wheeler managed it, but then a Suburban tried and slid back down to the bank. WHAT KIND OF DREAM IS THAT?
One of my favorite traffic signs is DUCK CROSSING. I find it delightful that ducks hold such a permanent residency that they get to have their own crosswalk. And then I look for the ducks, and even if I can't find them, I imagine a mama duck and lots of ducklings scrambling across the road. Awwww!
OK, now for some news. I've started working on a really big project. It's taking up a lot more time and energy than I originally anticipated. However, it's really important to me, so I'm putting Question of the Day? on hold. I'll try to get a QotW? in at times, but I just cannot handle a daily commitment right now. I thank you all in advance for being patient and understanding. I'm not going to give you any details about the project, because it's still early on and I want to make some more progress on it before I tell you about it. suspense!
Love,
The Asker

Dear QotD?ers,
Friday was my Friday-off. As sometimes happens, I got caught up in the weekend early and didn't get to QotD?. My appologies!
My favortie barnyard animal is a farm cat. I'm just really partial to cats. Also, that's one farm animal that I've had actual experience with up close. They eat scraps and hide in the bushes!

Dear QotD?ers,
Hey! So You Think You Can Dance is on! Are you watching? I think the dances this week are allright, but I'm not super amazed. ooh, brr, I just got sprinkled with ice cold condensation from my drink. chilly!
My favorite room is our bedroom. We have some beautiful furniture and a cozy mattress. I love taking naps in there and it's great for reading. One day, when our BIG RED COUCH finally comes in, and the upstairs room becomes purposeful, it might win out!

Dear QotD?ers,
Bad news everyone. The plague has broken out in Peru. Don't go there.
I'm going to say cinnamon. It goes well on many desserts, breakfasts, gum and sweet potatoes.

Dear QotD?ers,
Ok, trying this as soon as I get home. Which is a little late today because we ran a quick errand on our way home.
Currently, my favorite pair of socks were a gift. They are black with two alley cats in love looking at a full moon. Instead of trash cans, they are sitting on a recycle bin. And not only are they adorable, but they are cozy as well.

Dear QotD?ers,
Did you miss me on my unnanounced week QotD? vacation?
Life got busy and the first things to get dropped are at-home internet time. I need to get a new schedule worked out, so QotD? might be coming at some random times in the evening.
My question was a week old, but we DID have a big event this weekend: Justins 10-yr high school reunion! I only knew one guy, a friend of Justin's that I had met before, but I got to meet a few of his other friends that came. Most of the attendees were people he didn't remember or even know when he was in H.S., but I'm glad we went. There were some delicious little egg rolls as part of the snacks being served. score!
